Hey guys, c'mon, let's stop with the hate, let's remember the GOOD TIMES. Remember the excitement? The time those synch drops put us on opposite sides? What about Goon THUNDERDOME? All the angry pubbies? And all the sweet fanart and propaganda we made? Those were the days.

That would involve wasting the bandwidth to update/reinstall the game and also to actually log in, making me another one of their "retained" players.

Woolie Wool posted:I don't know what the Birdemic is, but 3057 is the Refusal War and the beginning of the partition of the Federated Commonwealth, when the Clans became largely a joke and the storylines became increasingly Davion-centric. The Wobblies showed up in 3058 and things just got worse from there. The Birdemic I think is the lovely novel that included the only canonical occurence of actual alien intelligence in Battletech, a book so lovely most fans (and authors) deny it exists. Which is exactly why MWO Goons latched onto it back in the day. SQUAAAWWK.

DarkStryke posted:FASA IP's really are cursed to live a life of mediocrity in the electronic modern era. When the father of FASA is happy with shipping mediocre junk you know there is zero hope for the foreseeable future. At least those two are alive and doing well enough in tabletop format, meaning there will always be interest in a videogame version, and maybe one day one will be awesome. Meanwhile Crimson Skies is rotting, forgotten in the corner. Then again, maybe that is a fate better than MWO.

This thread just inadvertently reminded me that the Earthsiege and Starsiege series (2nd best mech game series after classic Mechwarriors) still hasn't popped up on GoG.com. Now I'm extra sad.

The funny thing is, in the fluff even Omni mechs are not intended to be easily customizable by your average Mechwarrior and his techs. Omnimechs are designed more for rapidly refitting different pre-set/pre-built arrangements of payload pods. Sure it only takes a few hours of work to remove one Configuration and install another, but if you want a true custom setup you have to custom fabricate a set of omni-pods, install poo poo in them and deal with programming all the avionics systems to recognize your new setup. Typically the only people who warranted that were high-ranking/influential clanners. The rest just stuck to Prime/A/B/C/D configurations.

chairface posted:And while the planes aren't as customizable as mechs Oh they're customizable in all the right ways thanks to creative use of the decal system: Plus most pubbies are unbelievably bad, especially in Arcade Mode. They also get very uptight about Kill stealing, Ramming, Kill Stealing, Not Bombing, "OP" planes, Ramming, Nationalistic Crap, Ramming, Russian Bias, kill stealing, and especially Ramming (Rammer is a title you can unlock too). And nothing feels as awesome as killing a loving Jet in your WW2 prop plane those times you get uptiered. So once the draw of stompy robots wears off, consider giving WT a go. WebDO posted:19 is indeed a chill bro and he and the rest of you autists should come play War Thunder instead of this terrible game. WoL in the sky, or in tanks. But the original comment was a true masterstroke and I applaud it Yeah, nothing like Goons synch dropping in P-51s to take on Me-262 jets and Me-163 Rocket planes, then half of us break out wings in dives and poo poo before the enemy can even shoot us down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omMS6OahPYI Even better is how we always sent a few P-51 to the enemy's airfield to wait for those fuel-hungery jets/rocket planes to be coming back to land on fumes.

Oh? I didn't realize the Heavy Gear game was going the HG Arena route. That might actually be interesting, especially if they include melee combat. I admit, I've paid basically no attention to the game however. At least it'd mean that Gaudy Paintjobs and turning your Gear into a walking billboard are par for course.

Yeah Heavy Gear has always been kinda interesting (given its highly inspired by the anime VOTOMs) but while I had some people at my local tabletop game store play it for a while, I never really liked what I saw of the rules.
