Dang. Malandrax might be Marmelee's worst matchup in the game, come to think of it. She needs to play an aggressive game of keep-away to get her momentum going, and Malandrax punishes mobile characters pretty hard. That said, I can see a few mistakes in Spincut's play: 1) Starting with Dash in the discard. Yes, it's a "recommended discard," but that recommendation is awful for Marms. She NEEDS to have dash as an option from the start of the game. 2) Choosing Astral Cannon as a finisher. (Yeah, that's two damning mistakes in setup. This is why Marmelee is surprisingly hard to play.) Unless you're playing her Alt UA, you're never going to have the luxury of a full power Cannon, whereas Trance gives you an emergency backup battery if your momentum gets shot down. You always need to assume you'll be behind when you use a finisher, not ahead. 3) Barrier Dash wasn't a smart pair. That wastes two of Marmelee's escape cards in one shot. You always want to have one in hand when the other is in the discard pile. 4) Spincut hasn't used Meditation once this game. Meditation is what makes Marmelee's gimmick work. You don't even care if you hit with it.

That is all very true, thanks Gutter Owl. Most of this game I've been running around, alternately cursing and sobbing. I also took the mindset of "okay, I'm not going to win this and Marmelee is a terrible character, so let's get this over with." But that's obviously not a good state of mind to be in and that's my fault for asking for a random character. vv
