webex teams, lmao that was the biggest pile of garbage we've ever trialed but of course we went for it (because half of my previous employer's it department was ex-cisco)

I would blow Dane Cook posted:Does anyone use Cisco Jabber for instant messaging in their workplace? It's been down for literal days in my workplace and it does this every so often. Is it just an inherently bad product? Jabber is absolute garbage. Outdated, lacking featuers and as stable as that pentium 1 under the desk of your teamlead, that's still running that business critical MS Access database for accounting.

Schadenboner posted:If they list negatives that aren't actually negatives, it's the corporate version of "My biggest fault is that I'm a perfectionist"? Good point. Looks like most of the reviews are for their travelling consultant positions so there's a lot of mentions of long hours and lots of travel, but that wouldn't be what I'm doing, I'd be doing software support again so the schedule should be more stable. The job would get me back up to what I was making before my life fell apart in 2018, give me exposure to DevOps stuff through shadowing/working with the DevOps team, fully remote, seems like decent but not great benefits, I'm glad I didn't dismiss it off-hand. I'm working up a list of questions as far as what the schedule is, how common OT is, that kind of thing. The other job that I got submitted for yesterday was $100k a year while this one would be $65k a year, but tbh I'm not sure which I'd prefer at this point, the $100k one isn't permanently remote and the Glassdoor reviews mention lots of long hours and some pretty toxic-sounding company culture. Like, not more toxic than average from my experience but I'm trying to get out from the average levels of toxicity. Also it's in an industry I'm not a fan of. The lower-paying job is as bland as can be as far as industry, but if I get an interview for the higher paying one I'm going to be asking some very specific questions about the company to make sure it's somewhere that I could work for and still sleep at night. Unrelated, get well soon Bob.

Good luck with recovering from Covid. I'm avoiding going out since the situation here is getting really bad, luckily I can get almost anything online. Also, someone not too long ago posted a really good list of questions to ask during interviews. Does anyone have that handy? It's in one of the IT/STPYO/Tickets threads but I don't have search and I can't find it.

We just finished testing to make sure they played well with our imaging system, etc. Buff Hardback posted:That's kinda my big concern with the X1 losing a native Ethernet port. I've heard the keyboard on the T480s is not great though. CDW is still selling 2-year-old machines? Also, the T490s and presumably the new T14 don't have ethernet ports, either, though both them and the X1 come with a dedicated (i.e.: not USB-C) adapter. FWIW, the Dell 7400 and new 7410 also don't have Ethernet ports, and Dell *doesn't* include an adapter.

I have a 7390 convertible and I haven’t missed the Ethernet port. Then again, I have docks at both of my desks upstairs and downstairs that are hard wired in. I have one of the portable docks in my backpack just in case and I’ve used it all of once since I got the laptop.

That said, I *really* hate the Dell docks.

I have the T470s and I wondered how much I'd really need the built-in Ethernet port since I mostly keep it docked, but then the first month I had it I ended up using it to configure a standalone Raspberry Pi somewhere and was glad to have it! Also when you're in a meeting and the company wireless network goes out you can just plug in and be

Yeah, I wouldn't offer it up as a solution for end users. I meant more for us IT peoples. I just keep it with my USB-A to USB-C adapter, my USB COM port adapter, my USB CD/DVD drive, and my USB floppy drive. Okay, the USB floppy drive is very much retired.
