The simple fact of the matter is that Russell T Davies' run is monster-of-the-week. It's more about just the spirit of adventure than anything else. It served it's purpose to reintroduce Doctor Who into the world. Moffat's Matt Smith arch is not simply monster-of-the-week. Starting in Tennant's era it laid the foundation of a ballsy, three season, fully resolved story line that set up the next chapter. As with anything that major of a scale, you can find shortcomings. But any major serious plot issues have always been, in my experience, a fault in the viewer's understanding of events, not their portrayal. Season 6's conclusion being a classic example. RTD era had some decent episodes, but most of it can be just background static. Moffat's era has so much interwoven across episodes there's more to enjoy with a second-pass through.
