Woman moves to new city to find work. She has a boyfriend, she gets pregnant, boyfriend runs off. Work dries up, and she and her kid(s) get evicted. She might find a shelter, but once her kids are grown, they're on their own with zero support. Factory worker gets laid off. He doesn't have any particular skills and struggles to find work.
