when I say hardware acceleration I mean the decoding of the codec into whatever rgb space you are putting on screen happens in hardware giving you speed benefits and not being at the mercy of the CPU scheduler that the OS controls

lol windows 3.1 had "hardware accelerated video" meaning there was an overlay of a color and the video card knew to render pixels there but those rgb pixels were generated by the CPU with a software decoder

anyway saying "we have hardware acceleration!" and the CPU is still generating the rgb data (or whatever the video card format calls for) that's like saying "we calibrated our screens!!! *uses f.lux*"
