I was going to say something about ease of maintenance in modern cars and how if we're doing things right it should be getting easier, but then I remembered that a spark plug change in my BRZ (if I have it at that point) will require lifting the engine

FB sucks until you find the "hide all from _" option. Then it's really useful and rarely annoying. Having friends who are on the same page and only post genuinely interesting things helps a lot too.

Fuel injectors are the big one, plus the valve cover is prone to splitting after the CCV fails and tries to inflate the head like a balloon. Still, it can't be that much worse than my E46 experience; let's just say that if I didn't know any better I'd swear my car was built during Oktoberfest. Beyond that it seems like the interior of the E9x doesn't seem to be holding up all that well; there seem to be a good number of cars with barely 30,000 miles on the clock that have wrinkly, worn-out looking leather on the front seats...far worse than my E46 has (with 93,000 miles on the clock). Also, a disproportionate number of them have gray leather interiors, which for me is an absolute dealbreaker, as is (to a lesser extent) wood trim.

Last I checked our warehouse at work still had a few HP 4/xxx series printers with jet direct cards in there. If somebody needs one I can see if they're there and how much they want for them. For price comparison, I purchased a laser printer/fax/scanner in there for $1.73 7 years ago. I've spent more in toner than the unit itself.

The rest can be scavenged up from elsewhere. I still have a G3 beige that I refuse to get rid of. It's the newest Apple product I own. I keep it because it has PCI ports, SCSI, IDE and localtalk. That last one is a biggie for me. It's been a while but it lets me do horrible things like use the G3 as a file server for my IIgs or a network bridge of sorts for SMB. Plus the G3 can run Bernie II (IIGS emulator) which supports using some of the native G3 hardware like the floppy drive, and can use disk images or directories as virtual devices. It's a useful retrocomputing tool. The downside is the video RAM connector is damaged and I lack the tools to replace it. It has some RAM stolen from a Dell or something shoved in there which really bumps up the maximum resolution / colour depth. I miss having my toys to play with, but when there's a young child around these things have to go away for a while. Got my bigger harder to break toys with wheels outside anyway. e: My screensaver just told me Ubuntu 14.10 is out. Time to upgrade, break my install, hate myself, flatten and reinstall again already? There really isn't a good point to update to any latest-and-greatest Linux anything for a G3 based system, anyhow. You're not going to be getting any magical new plugins to have the same multimedia experience everyone else did back in the 90s. Just find a stable distribution with KDE3 and find a recent Firefox and Thunderbird build.

I missed out due to my own stupidity on a free HP networked 4000 series printer at work the other day. Thing had a perpetual phantom paperjam, caused by one of the little paper flags getting jammed down. Work was going to ditch it and replace it because it was "Broken". I looked at it, googled the problem, found the problem and poked the flag with a screw driver and it popped back out and it works again. Ive got a Brother MFC colour laser at home tho, so god knows what i would do with a 4000 series HP printer

You Am I posted:2009 MB Pros can run the latest OSX. You can get 10.9 from the App Store for $20. 10.9 is free. But you have to get it through the App Store, which you don't get untless you have 10.6 or newer, so you need to track down a 10.6 disc first. I'd stick with 10.6 on an 09 anyway, 10.9 is slower on them, especially since it probably only has 2gb RAM.

For awhile (I don't know if they still do this) Apple would send you a 10.6 disc so you can use it to get the App Store and upgrade to a modern version.
