Traditionally, it is seen as a cross between a man and a stag, often with great large antlers upon its humanoid head, and possessing of speed so great it was said to leave burning footprints in its wake. However, the Wendigo also is a spirit of possession, entering into men that have committed the taboo of cannibalism, often due to starvation conditions. These men would become ravenous, evil revenants, driven mad by their hunger for human flesh, with an emaciated, dried up appearance, denoting their supernatural cravings. Yeah well English media has always sort of hosed up the Wendigo, for example the Marvel Comics character that fights the Hulk is basically just a yeti- although it's not like Japan is entirely free of that either with poo poo like Wendigomon from Digimon. I would probably blame choices like this because the interpretations of the Wendigo are commonly drawn from The Wendigo by Algernon Blackwood where it's a big hulking beast that looks like a big foot with antlers that got hit with every branch of the ugly tree.

I thought it was Tohomaru until he told the fiends to gently caress off because he's missing the eye that Hyakkimaru got back when he met Dororo and he was supposed to die a ways back in the story. Most likely candidate is Saburota given how he's started pulling demon powers outta his rear end. Or Dororo seeing how he can punch harder than most swords can cut and seems to be missing most of his brain. If there was an abomination wouldn't they like lose parts as he got them back? But if there was one it could be the Ronin that used Dragon Brood. I mean what bigger failure than killing yourself and then getting the sword broken that had Hyakki's body part in it? And he looked pretty hosed up himself.

Nah you got the right impression, but the actual thing was more along the lines of her saying "He's kind of a ladies man and he still goes out on weekends, but tends to keep women at arms length" and not literally "I haven't seen his girlfriend lately". So yeah it was a nod to women dieing around him, but more in the he's a paranoid nerd sense, than the it literally happened sense.
