Here is the Real Life Skeleton/Wither skeleton

Skeletons become Wither Skeletons after being within the Nether for a long enough period of time, due to soot accumulation on their bones. Wither Skeletons are the same as Skeletons, only they have been in the Nether for some time. Fundamentally they are exactly the same. However often time Wither Skeletons will wield stone swords, but can use bows or other weapons as well.
