PI Posting Guidelines:

LITERALLY A BIRD posted:

1. One-shot/discussion threads for PI relevant content are permissible and encouraged. Find a weird animal video? Share it. Come across an interesting article? Post about it. It doesn't just have to be pets, wildlife is a-okay as well. Many people post memorial threads for their pets that have recently passed, and if you've recently suffered a loss you can do that too.

2. Conversation-style posting (incl. low-content/no-content/drunk-posting) is perfectly fine.

3. Hate speech and NWS images are not fine.

4. Don't take criticism personally. Critique of your animal's care or situation is meant to help improve both your life and your pet's. Getting defensive won't help anything!

PI Rules:

1. No drama.

2. No "adopt my/this animal" stuff. That's what http://www.petfinder.org or http://www.adoptapet.com are for. Please do post in the animal-specific thread asking about how you might go about safely rehoming over the internet, since we can help you filter out scumbags who just want to eat your cat.

3. No asking for help paying for vet bills / pet supplies / whatever. We feel for you, but no one wants to read hundreds of appeals for help.

4. Be open to criticism. Contrary to popular belief, people in this subforum actually know about pets. Don't be a douche if you don't agree with what someone's telling you and don't close your threads in a snit. Be open-minded and make sure there is some sort of resolution. Be sure not to leave us will blue balls. If you post a thread commenting on how your precious dog/cat/bird/T-REX/WHATEVER ate a piece of string, poo poo a turtle, etc, please let us know that your pet is ok and that the issue was resolved or in the process of being resolved. Too many times we see threads go unresolved and they just sort of fall off into the archives. It's not hard to update. Unless you die. Then it's impossible.

5. There will never, ever be consensus on issues like outside cats and declawing. Accept that people have views other than your own and go somewhere else to flame.

6. DO NOT TRY TO USE THIS FORUM TO REPLACE YOUR VET - the answer will be that you need to see your vet. This is because you need to see your vet. Why would you trust random internet weirdos over someone who's actually seen your pet?

7. If you want to sell something, run it by a moderator first. It might have a better place in SA-Mart. If you try to sell or advertise your BYB puppies/kittens/whatever, you will be banned. Yes, someone actually did this.

8. For the love of god and all that is holy please don't refer to your pets as "furbabies" or yourself as "mommy". It's creepy as gently caress.

A good site to find shelters and rescue groups (or even specific breeds) in your area (US or Canada): http://www.petfinder.org

Helpful links for UK goons: RSPCA, http://www.dogstrust.org.uk, http://www.battersea.org.uk/, and http://www.dogsblog.com/ (c/o forums user notsoape)

quote:

"NAIA online says that neutering my animal is horrible!!!11!"
Please read this, then ask if you have more questions or want to discuss it more:

While the forum title is Pet Island we also like to encourage posts about husbandry, livestock, and other related subjects.

Posts about hunting are probably more appropriate in The Firing Range and posts about raising animals for food are probably better suited in Goons w/ Spoons mostly because you're likely to get more interest in both items in said subforums.

If you have any questions in regards to PI and would like to contact a moderator, but don't have PMs, please feel free to drop us an email.

2. is still cool if someone shows an interest in adopting/helping a pet though, right? PI's done a few help trains in the past and/or adopted animals from close-by goons' litters. Sleepybudgie's a great example.

This is a metaphor, a Christian allegory. The fact that I have to explain to you that Jesus is the Warthog, and the Banana is drepanocytosis is just embarrassing for you.

Is there a rule on asking for advice on how to lie to a pet adoption agency in order to get a dog?

That's a little different - having someone who will adopt an animal and just needs help getting it there is not a problem. See: http://www.pilotsnpaws.org/

I knew you were trouble
when you flew in

Hi PI! In an effort to make our subforum a more casual, engaging place to post in, we're making some changes to the rules:

Oh, and ironic tildes are okay again. Go hog wild.

This is just a general reminder that if you solicit help or advice and disagree with what you're told, don't be a jerk about it. We're trying to help but if you're rude people will be rude right back!
