![]() We are a Tech Priest in the year 40,000 (ish). A ninety second summary can be found here. Our job as an Acolyte of the Inquisition is to find xeno-traitors, heretics, and daemon cults, and crush them/tell them to our boss so he can to crush them. This is further complicated by the fact that our Family is the hereditary owners of a Rogue Trader ship, making us minor aristocrats whose job is to explore the unknown and bring back technology, lore, and xeno plunder. Our Tech Priest is going to have to manage the delicate balance of supporting our Family while also supporting the Inquisition, knowing that a misstep will get us spaced or sent to the pyres. This doesn't even include our official enemies, being slavering xenos, ruthless heretics, and soul-eating daemons. As a Tech Priest, we are a member of a religious monopoly on technology, which means we get to know all knowledge of the humanity, but we are restrained by religious sins such as “innovation” and “heretek”. Our religious order wants us to discover all the knowledge that has been lost over the millennia, but only do so in an orthodox way. Between the Inquisition, your Family, and your obedience to the Tech Priests, you will almost certainly be betraying someone in short order. Good luck. Google doc here (most recent first) or you can read the posts individually below. I usually hang out in Discord if you want to chat about the game. Dark Heresy uses the double unlock system for advancement, by which you choose a specialty for your level, and then spend XP on buying talents and skills within that level. Psyker has more options on each tier, but also has a much higher likelihood of head exploding. Additionally, it looks like we can start unlocking Psyker powers as a Tech Priest after 6. Basically, if we want to play the long game, slow is smooth, survive and win, Tech Priest looks better, while if we want to burn out in a blaze of glory while thousands around us erupt in daemons, probably killing us before get max level, we want Psyker. Oh, this will be fun. Looks like we're already getting our Radical v Puritan factions. Have some Eisenhorn: "We all become radicals eventually as we appreciate that we must know our enemy in order to defeat him. The real dangers come from extreme puritans. Puritanism is fuelled by ignorance, and ignorance is the greatest peril of all. That's not to suggest the path of the radical is easy. Eventually even the most careful and responsible radical will be overwhelmed by the warp. The real judge of character is what good a man can do for the Imperium before he is drawn too far.""

Yup, you do. I didn't think it would matter for this stage because everything is 100+ XP.

Dear Sir/Madam You have passed all the required tests with the speed and ability we have come to expect from new Acolytes of the Inquisition. Congratulations. Your first orders are to board the Rogue Trader Ship Beast of Trall. From there, you will spend several years (estimates include five to ten) acting in the service of the Inquisition, ever watchful for signs of Xenos, Heresy, or the Great Enemy. From there, you will make reports to this Astropathic location (see attached), and will receive logistical support as the Inquisition deems fit and necessary. If you are without support, you are encouraged to use your own discretion in the fight against the Imperium’s enemies - but remember you are not an Inquisitor, and must remain within its laws. The ship leaves in approximately four hours. You needn’t worry about notifying your chain of command, your domicile, family, or next of kin - we here at the Inquisition have already taken care of it for you, and there will be no legal, emotional, or financial repercussions for obeying the needs of the Inquisition. Good Luck. In the Emperor’s Name, Inquisitor Kozilek A) Well, thats not a good sign. You were born on the Beast of Trall, and the officers are composed exclusively of your Family. You’ve never observed any signs of traitors of heresy, and you know this ship like the back of your hand. It’s best if you warn your Lord-Sire, the Captain of the Ship and Bearer of the Trader’s Warrant. He’ll know what to do. B) If you’ve been selected as an Acolyte on this ship, that means someone you know! Maybe your own Family! Could be consorting with the enemy. You should consult with the Ecclesiarchy for guidance. Perhaps they can guide you in the right direction, now that even your Family may have joined with darkness. C) … That would explain a lot, actually. You always thought the whole lot of them were a bit off, and you say that as a void born. You are going to keep this very close to your chest, and begin your own investigation privately. As a noble, you have an excellent source of funds, and the belly of the Beast of Trall is swarming with merchants. D) You need spiritual guidance, yes, but from His aspect as Omnissiah. You will speak with the Machine Cult in the aft of the ship where they maintain the holy engines. There is been a Magos there for as long as you can remember, and his teachings have spoken to you throughout your life. E) This was a terrible idea and no mistake. Joining the Inquisition when the investigation is your own Family and their ship? This was spam mail to be ignored in the first place, and you don’t know why you filled it out. Best if you just destroy the material quietly, with no one the wiser. F) Other - These choices will also let me know the direction you want this character to go. Is she devoted to her family, perhaps a favorite of the Patriarch? Does she draw her strength from the Church and the Imperial Cult? Or is she more jaded and paranoid by her years spent off ship? Alternately, does she want to be left alone? Loel fucked around with this message at Aug 22, 2014 around 13:25 |

For full disclosure, I wouldnt put a suicide option in the thread (unless you guys want to 1v1 a bloodthirsty or something). So an Inquistor won't kill you if you choose E, but there will be ... complications.

As an aside, it pleases me to describe a Rogue Trader ship as "never-ending hunger and its mind-boggling stupidity ... mind bogglingly stupid, but very, very ravenous."

A) Warn your lord sire B) Consult the Ecclesiarchy x C) Begin your Investigation Privately x x x x D) Commune with the Machine x x x E) Destroy the Material, Pretend nothing Happened x x F) Implicate our Family, Regardless of Guilt x x x x x x x x G) Collect/frame evidence on Family, going slow x x x Looks like our Family will be the first to go. Ill keep voting up over the weekend-ish. At the moment it looks like the main argument is whether we call the Inquisitor RIGHT NOW, or if we make a good case first.

Obscil posted:Well, we should probably get some evidence first. Although, there's no reason the evidence has to be real. Well, actually real evidence would be preferable considering there are probably some really nasty consequences for faking evidence. Judging by the numbers, you only need to persuade 3 people to go from CALL NOW to COLLECT/FAKE SOME PROOF and your family *is* tainted, so theres prolly some credence to you thinking there is some guilt there.

That changes the tone a bit, originally I got the impression you were calling in at the first Astropath. Writing up some evidence, being slow, and keeping to yourself is a slightly different approach, although I dig the Paranoia game play.
