Having wanted Imperial Assault since it was announced and then getting it this Christmas just gone I finally got to play it on Saturday. Ran through the tutorial mission and then started an abortive "let's see how a campaign setup works" first mission. So today I bought Boba Fett and IG-88 in the FLGS (because they didn't have Han and Chewie, obvs). It's happening... I can feel it...

Odd choice to make. If those ships are really that tiny then they may as well have been released as single models on squadron bases or something.

I think at this point the only way Armada sucks me in is if they do the Hammerhead Corvette from Rebels. So I guess I have a few months until that happens

It's got HK Assassin Droids in the box. Do you really need more information? UGH, FINE! It's a full campaign.

Seems like they're going with a skirmish focus for them or does this hint at pre-New Hope campaigns? All three characters are dead before the movie ends after all, and one never even made it to the start.

If you just want to play the campaign there's no need to buy any of them, but the first wave is worth grabbing if you prefer toy mans to card tokens.

Well if they feel the need to make a new core box I'm sure they'd be the logical pack in expansion. Kind of hoping for a Rebels themed one first myself though. I'd pay good money to play as Chopper in ImpAss.

I went digging into the rules for a game last weekend when one of the players insisted on buying a blaster pistol from the loot even though nobody was using a pistol and learned that any character can use any weapon and carry two into battle.

There's a lot of logic that comes from approaching it as a "boxed RPG lite" that seems to result in being utterly wrong about it. I found a massive thread a while back where some dude just couldn't understand the idea of characters not necessarily having a default melee attack, just using their guns point blank instead. In retrospect the idea of buying the pistol probably would not have been a bad one if and only if the group had given it to Diala Passil or Ghaarkan rather than sticking a second gun on a character that already had a good enough gun to keep trucking with.

For goons thinking about getting into Armada who missed the cheap US Amazon deal, Book Depository has it now 39% off with free shipping. At that price it's worth the risk I think.

By "risk" I meant "that you won't enjoy the game". Book Depository are 100% reliable, even if they do regularly scare the poo poo out of my by sending every item in an order in a separate package because They seem to actually be clearing out of Fantasy Flight stuff, or at least not actively restocking it. There's very little left and nothing has been added since I first used them at least a year back. Still, a core box and a Nebulon B for under 75 euro shipped is spectacular value.

Could be that, but the discount seems random so I'd almost guess that Book Depository just took a bunch of unsold stock from other retailers or something. I didn't really look at their site for a while because I was really trying to track down Han Solo for Imperial Assault and just couldn't find it anywhere near MSRP but assumed they were just not getting restocked because nobody was. A chance email had me check their site last night and see that they're actually pretty cleaned out.

You know, as silly as that was at least it wasn't the first arc of the mainline comic, which was the special kinds of terrible that you only really got from Marvel prior to the release of The Empire Strikes Back.

Also the art thing came back, but the terrible poo poo in the pre-season trailer hasn't actually turned up in the show yet.

Partially due to the limitations of the medium it came off as a "just as planned " moment because they didn't really explain the basic search methodology beforehand. Even when he does something plausible it's presented in a way that I find annoying whatever fiction it happens in.

I'd disagree about buying the expansions, but don't use them until you've played a bit. They can be hard to track down specific ones, so if you see one you want at a price you're happy to pay then grab it. If for no other reason than you can use the figures rather than the card tokens, which is always much cooler.
