College Hockey! It's more fun than the NHL! Sure, they're not as good, but rude chants are the best and we all get to band together against Notre Dame. So, what the heck is the conference breakdown? The CCHA died 2 years ago, so your favorite school was probably affected. Atlantic Hockey Air Force American International Army Bentley Canisius UConn Holy Cross Mercyhurst Niagara Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Robert Morris Sacred Heart Big Ten Michigan Michigan State Minnesota (2014 National Runner-Up) Ohio State Penn State Wisconsin Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Brown Clarkson Colgate Cornell Dartmouth Harvard Princeton Quinnipiac (2013 National Runner-Up) Rensselaer (RPI) St. Lawrence Union (Defending National Champions) Yale (2013 National Champions) Hockey East Boston College Boston Univ Maine UMass-Lowell UMass Merrimack New Hampshire Northeastern Notre Dame (gently caress Notre Dame) Providence Vermont National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Colorado College Denver Miami (not that Miami) Minnesota-Duluth Nebraska-Omaha North Dakota St. Cloud State Western Michigan Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Alabama-Huntsville Alaska-Anchorage Alaska-Fairbanks (aka Hockeybear) Bemidji State Bowling Green Ferris State Lake Superior State Michigan Tech Minnesota State Northern Michigan What to look for this year: - Michigan will underachieve and probably lose to Penn State more than they should (0 times) - Michigan State will be terrible - Miami's head coach will look like Mr. Bean - gently caress Notre Dame - Western Michigan's students will get in trouble for trying to get little kids to do the shocker on the Zamboni at intermission. Again. - Someone will win the national title. Preferably not Wisconsin or Minnesota. - New Hampshire will continue to have the best derogatory nickname ever, "University of No-Hardware" - BGSU and Miami fans will continue to complain about the Big Ten teams making their own conference, despite it creating room for expansion where there previously was not. Alabama-Huntsville is particularly happy this happened. - Your favorite school will lose 3 of its top 5 recruits to CHL teams, because a letter of intent is non-binding and means nothing. So let's go get em, eh? Neodoomium fucked around with this message at 00:36 on Oct 13, 2014 |

The NCAA passed some new rule changes Here's a list of all this year's drafted players Check out the NCHC/B1G CCHA teams in the HCC this year. ASU wants to move to D1, saddle up WCHA. Completely baseless opinion: Rutgers is posturing to move up form club to D1 in the next few years. Completely logical opinion: Miami will be awful again.

Indiana and Illinois are a given, they've been the most likely to be teams 7 and 8 since PSU made the jump. What'll be interesting is if Arizona, Colorado, or any of the Pac-8 teams (Most likely USC, maybe Washington or Oregon) take a cue from ASU and start posturing for an endowment

We haven't even started college football season yet, and the college hockey thread is already up? Dang. Well, it does give time for a (way-too-much) effort post about the ECAC, and we'll see if I've learned anything from watching these past couple seasons.

I moved to Detroit two months ago, so I'm pretty stoked that I'll get to make the trip out to Ann Arbor and catch some Michigan games. I haven't watched college hockey live since I graduated from BU in 2010. Similarly, I am completely embarrassed to be a BU alum because that team has been absolute trash since their championship in 2009. I knew there'd be a big step back after Parker's retirement, but I didn't think it would be, "candidate for worst season in school history" bad. gently caress.

College hockey in Texas is really coming on as a thing (starting out recreationally) and it's been great fun. UNT/Texas Tech/SMU/TCU/TAMU have a nice little rivalry going. Even Dallas Baptist University has a team now. UT has a team, but the ACHA is well below USA Junior AA but hey, Hockey East is a bit of a drive from here.

That looks a lot more realistic to me. I can maybe buy Ferris or Minn State around 9-10 but any higher seems a bit odd. Granted, preseason polls should always be taken with big rear end grains of salt anyway.

I am more pumped up for BU hockey this year than I have been in a while. It's still a young team and they're going to struggle, but the freshmen coming in this year (10 of them!) are very exciting. Obviously there's Jack Eichel, but there's also some solid defensemen in MacLeod and Fortunato from the U-18 national team, and some interesting forwards like Greer and Phelps.

Also: This weekend has Michigan at Ferris State, so a non-exhibition game that matters right off the hop! Let's go!
