The Pirates have a 1-run lead, and it might as well be 30 runs.

One moment, the backup catcher narrowly escapes a TOOTBLAN. The next, it's 3-1, good guys. I love this game of bases and balls.

That's weird. Usually, Rosenthal takes the time to load up a couple of bases before he gives up his first ER.

This strike zone tonight has been just plain stupid. A blind man sitting 4 states away facing an empty fishbowl and guessing wildly could do better.

Gotta get that amazing Maness double play! Even if there are two outs? Especially if there are two outs. They had just been talking about how Maness and AJ weren't on the same page with what pitch to throw. Turns out that Seth's straightslowball wasn't the way to go.

As I understand it, if there's a protest and the league agrees with the team protesting, the game is picked up from that point, regardless of the original outcome. Wasn't that how the pine tar game was handled?

It's never good when the Cards lose, but giving up a KKKK inning? That pretty much sums up the lovely offense the Cardinals have given us this season. I have to give it up to the Cubs' young batsmen. That was an impressive display tonight.

I don't know why it matters when the Cubs win the series again. I, for one, respect a team that dominated baseball so thoroughly that, after their second world championship, they sat back and said, "You know what? We don't have anything left to prove. Ever. We're the best team in all 45 states, gentlemen! Now let's get drunk, because I hear that in 10 years, Prohibition is going to start!"

I thought after his last start, Masterson would be relegated to the bullpen. That way, in the unlikely event that the Cardinals get the lead, he could blow it then. He's terrible.

I think that one good start he had was the problem: one decent start gives even the most brilliant strategic minds hope. For Matheny, it's worthy of devotion. At least Jay's DP got us one back.

There is no pending baseball play that resembles a train wreck quite like watching a triangle of running fielders converge. Will one catch it? Will it drop? Will they hit each other? ... and this time it dropped. Descalso, who hits the baseball safely just to make us look like assholes for criticizing him, gets a RBI.
