I'm not going to just try to zerg rush you, but if you purely eco up (buy economic techs, pump science almost exclusively) then I almost have to come over there since I'm playing an early-game faction. I used to not be too fussed about having core access. Then a guy completely blocked me from the rest of the board with one tile. No wormhole generator tech was drawn the entire game. My tiles were terrible. Now I make sure I have core access.
