What is the FIBA World Cup? Formerly known as the World Championships, this has been renamed in an attempt to fool Europeans who might think the soccer tournament is still going. This tournament determines the world champions in basketball at least until the Olympics which determines the world champions of basketball. The championships are in basketball hotbed Spain starting tomorrow, and is the welcome return of actual basketball for NBA fans instead of speculating about LeBron and whether the guy on the golf cart knows anything about LeBron. Is there a dumb theme song and embarrassing video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wd9Xw5PSPGo&t=33s Who is playing in the FIBA World Cup? Brief team capsules The Favorites The USA is the presumptive favorite in any international tournament that does not involve Larry Brown. This will be the most vulnerable team since 2008, though. Paul George will not playing because his shin bone is still embedded in the court in Las Vegas. Kevin Love quit because he was involved in the Cleveland trade. Kevin Durant left because he hates America. Still, the team has been built on the most important American principles: dunking on foreigners. It includes Kenneth Faried who has been dunkin' since a youngin, and Anthony Davis. But we're also taking a Plumlee, so gently caress us. Notable NBA Players: All of them Notable absentees: LeBron James Carmelo Anthony Kobe Bryant Known America-Hater Kevin Durant Paul George's entire leg Derrick Rose's Knees The Next Favorite Spain returns the Spanish Armada of Large Skilled People as the biggest threat to American basketball hegemony. Senegal is the best chance the Philippines has of picking up one win, then the other one will just have to come down to hot shooting from outside and Blatche getting his head together for one game. VV I think Puerto Rico is actually better than Senegal, which is why I consider them a 'maybe - if the stars align right' opponent. anakha fucked around with this message at 08:53 on Aug 30, 2014 |

He made the first one then promptly clanked the next nine. Now he remembered that he could theoretically drive too so his last three possessions were him awkwardly lumbering towards the basket. Illinois Smith fucked around with this message at 12:10 on Aug 30, 2014 |

I really like the rest of the team though, they look like one of those plucky FIBA teams where nobody's taller than 6'6" that can bomb itself back into any game if they get hot. Which they just did, after Blatche went to the bench for the first time.
