Samurai Cop is a movie from 1991 about a man named Joe Marshall who is a samurai who beats dudes up with Samurai Skills. It's an incredibly silly and ridiculous low-budget action movie. A man gets shot with what are clearly paintballs because apparently they couldn't afford squibs. They're also making a sequel which has a KICKSTARTER that you should totally donate too. A lot of the cast is returning, the distributor for the first film is directing, and all indications are that it's going to be a relatively straight sequel, not Birdemic 2.

But that's not the important part; the important part is that thanks to an improbable series of events involving me showing Samurai Cop to people on the internet, we came into contact with Matt Hannon (Samurai Cop himself) and the director, Greg Hatanaka, who are interested in doing a Q&A with us. Please, guys, be on your best behavior. Please. Ask questions about a silly movie and its sequel. Don't be dicks. Don't ruin this.

Everytime I try to fly I fall
Without my wings
I feel so small
Guess I need you baby...

I'll kick this off. First, thanks so much for dicking around with us in the livestream, it was a blast.

To Matt Hannon: Please talk about the stuffed lion head in the restaurant office. It's my favorite background prop ever.

To Greg Hatanaka: What are some of your favorite cult/"bad" movies?

I sent them the link to this thread. I can't believe this is a thing that's actually happening.

Until the guys get here, please check out the awesome looking Kickstarter and imagine a samurai movie with Robert Z'dar, George Lazenby, and Seymour Cassel.

And Matt Hannon and Mark Frazer, of course.

If you haven't seen the original movie, it's your duty to track it down and watch it as soon as possible. It's about a cop that's also a samurai.

I'd also like to point out that Samurai Cop 2 is continuing the original's tradition of starring porn actresses. Lexi Belle is going to be in it which makes SC2 an instant buy.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a boring movie
Redlettermedia sorta beat you to it. They have an interview with Matt Hannon up on their site.

My credit card is acting weird and I'm having trouble buying the second account. Can someone else get this one and DM me for the email? I don't want to post any personal info in here.

EDIT: Skwirl came to the rescue! Thanks!

Yeah I know, that's what prompted me to watch the movie tonight and then this happened.

Ha, I knew there was a reason I tweeted the stream :3: too bad I got called into work.

Seconding the question about the stuffed lion head, that thing was amazing.

Just watching that Red Letter interview with Matt Hannon. He comes across as a very chill and funny guy. Makes it better knowing that he knew how loving ridiculous the movie is and why people enjoy it.

A local comic book shop here in Dublin run a little underground club. They have a good/bad movie night and I happened to be there the night they ran this. I got apocalypticly baked for the first time in like 5 years and watched it. loving great memories.

I am on board with Samurai Cop 2, here's hoping it can be a worthy successor.

I have a question for Matt - what was it like working with Robert Z'Dar? I just saw him get electrocuted in Tango & Cash the other day.

If anyone in LA didn't know, Cinefamily is going to be showing Samurai Cop this Friday at 9:40. Matt Hannon will be there for a Q & A

I hope they raise enough funds for a sequel. A little over two weeks to go and they're not half way there yet.

If you read the blurb, I'm pretty sure it says that there're making it regardless of hitting the goal. They just want the money for extra stuff.

It should be a reverse kickstarter. The more money they get, the less they can spend on the movie and the worse (better) it will be.

Un malheur ne vient jamais seul.
Both Hannon & Hatanaka: Have you seen Shotgun or Miami Connection, by any chance?

Matt Hannon: Any funny stories about shooting the first film?

Greg Hatanaka: IMDb says you've been doing 3D conversions of public domain films. Which are your favorites of the ones you've done/been working on?

I saw the nurse clip, is the movie just as..."good" throughout? I am trying to convince my movie night crew to watch it and they are afraid of trying new things

I thought so.

Let's put it this way. At any given time in the film, there's always some chance of a completely abrupt cut to a nude scene. The first time you watch the film, you will never see it coming. And it's awesome.
