Having another league draft at the same time made this difficult. I am not too happy with taking a D that early, but looking at my other D, I'll take Piets. Looking over this team, I like them more than I thought I would. This is the first year I took a goalie this early, too. So I did my first fantasy draft in like half a decade, my strategy may have been flawed. Kept trying to get a steal with goalies by waiting an extra pick (Schneider, Rinne, Gibson) and got sniped by 1-2 picks each time. Ended up praying Trotz can fix Holtby a bit and then I went goalie-heavy at the end hoping I can juggle the split starts enough to do well. Going to watch the Minnesota battle closely, snag Kuemper or Backstrom if one of them solidifies a starting role. pre:Rd Ovr Player Pos 01 003 Corey Perry RW 02 018 Anze Kopitar C 03 023 PK Subban D 04 038 Patrick Marleau C/LW 05 043 Gabriel Landeskog LW 06 058 Jeff Skinner LW/RW 07 063 Keith Yandle D 08 078 Jeff Carter C/RW 09 083 Braden Holtby G 10 098 Evander Kane LW 11 103 Mark Giordano D 12 118 Tyson Barrie D 13 123 Jakub Voracek RW 14 138 Jonathan Drouin LW 15 143 Jacob Trouba D 16 158 Frederik Andersen G 17 163 Jake Allen G 18 178 Mikhail Grabovski C/RW 19 183 Craig Anderson G

I was stuck at dinner and board game sessions with a depressed friend Sunday night so I had to auto-draft in LOLHL, at least I won Settlers of Catan! After some fixin' my roster looks like this so far: Steen - Marleau - Carter Benn - Legwand - Nyquist Glencross - Stajan - Upshall McGinn - Bolland - Versteeg Keith - Giordano Campbell - Faulk Schultz - Muzzin Toffoli Santorelli Forsberg Quick Howard It's not total poo poo I guess, I do my best work via waivers and free agency anyway.

I'm a little confused with how goalie categories work in Yahoo head-to-head leagues. In our league we have 4 goalie categories (SAV%, GAA, W, SO) and two goalies on the starting roster. Do the two goalies' stats combine for that week and then you get the average of the two?
|
# ? Sep 30, 2014 22:17 |
|
Average of the SV% and GAA of all the goalies you start, and the total number of wins and shut outs of all goalies you start. Extremely simple example, two goalies who play one game each that week: Goalie A has no wins, a Sv% of .900 and a GAA of 2.00. Goalie B has 1 shut out win. Your stat line would be SV% of .950, GAA of 1.00, 1 win, 1 shut out Generally that example would never happen since there are minimum start requirements and most goalies play more than once a week, but you get the idea Jamwad Hilder fucked around with this message at 22:22 on Sep 30, 2014 |

Yup, you usually need a minimum number of goalie starts per week for any to count too. So if you think a goalie might get lit up by a team and can hit the minimum number of starts in your league, bench him for that game. Then they won't bring your stats for the week down. That's for SV and GAA of course. W and SO are cumulative as noted above.

We have a minimum of 3 games per week for goalies. The line ups are set weekly though with two goalies on the starting roster for each team. I'd like to try to get Rask or Lundqvist in the first round. Would it be stupid to then draft a goalie that won't get any starts and just ride the stats from Rask or Lundqvist while my second goalie gets no starts?

How big is the league, how many goalies can you start at once, and how many scoring categories are there for skaters?
|
# ? Sep 30, 2014 22:36 |

It's probably better to get a top flight forward with your first pick rather than a goalie IMO. Barring injury they'd be more reliable producing over a "top" goaltender. People often go nuts drafting goalies but it's my thinking for the weekly format you are not going to see a huge difference between the stars and the average other than the occasional shutout or two. Whereas a forward on a hot streak can rack up the points (and the top Cs pile up the FWs too quite reliably) So as long as you can get a couple goalies that are good for the 3 starts a week that aren't lovely you're good. Plus if they go sour or get few starts drop em for someone getting starts.

With only 24 goalies taken though, the floor for goalies is pretty high if you draft smart.

Only changes I'd make would be take out SOG and hits for short handed points and FWs. The league I'm in has SOG and blocks and I am not a fan of those. Same with Hits, it seems like there is a range of interpretation as to what counts as a hit. Totally just my opinion though it'd be completely fine to leave it as is!

Setting up a league for people who are new to fantasy sports. I worry that having to set your roster daily is going to result in most teams getting abandoned around week 3. I've never been in a hockey league where the rosters locked weekly, though. Anybody got experience with such a league? Did it work out? (This is a H2H league, btw.)
