I wasn't expecting so much Randy/Mr. Lahey actual, literal relationship drama, but it was amazing. Jordan annoyed me at first but then I think I fell under his/her spell just like Randy.

Jacob is no Trevor though, goddamn it.

He's not Trevor but he's a hell of a lot better than he was in season 7.

If you're referring to Orangie, I agree with you. The only real funny thing that has come out of that bit was Cory and Jacob's attempt to replace him at the supermarket and mall. Also, is it just me, or does it feel like they went out of their way to make Ricky even dumber than he already was? Is that even possible, or is it just that I haven't watched this show in a few years? It seems like Rob Wells has been laying on the "Rickyisms" a bit too thick so far this season.

He's not referring to Orangie. You'll understand soon.

I agree with you that the amount of Rickyisms was way higher than usual. But I liked them.

The season seemed a lot more explicitly sexual than it did in the past, which I don't know if I really cared for.

How so? I remember lots of early episodes that included porn, strippers, Randy and Lahey roleplaying, Ricky and Lucy "banging." Lots of talk of hookers relating to Ray's trucker experience.

I waded into the internet's darkest depths(a Reddit AMA with the boys) and gleaned this info:

*Season 9 drops on Netflix in March, they hope to follow it with season 10 and 11
*Netflix gives them full creative control
*They've talked with and are cool with Michael Jackson(Trevor) and the door is open for him to return whenever he wants to
*If Ellen Page ever wants to come back to Sunnyvale they'd be pretty ecstatic

I'll add that they said a GTA-style video game is in development.

They weren't in Season 6 either and while it was a decline from the previous seasons, 6 still was pretty funny.

They were in season 6. That's when they had the convenients store.

I think that this is a time when we see how amorally ruthless Julian can be without Ricky and Bubbles to distract and soften him respectively. After Jim betrays The Boys at the end of season 8, effectively stealing the park out from under Jules' nose, both Julian and Ricky pledge oaths to themselves over torrents of swearwords that they will have revenge. in Season 8.5 we see Ricky confront the reality of revenge and its incompatibility with his looming role as extended family patriarch while Julian sees no such resolution. Julian is on the warpath in season 9, lone commando style, diving head first into the greasiest poo poo. In the end, Bubbles' critique of Julian's decision to tacitly allow Ricky to rain piss all over the park is accurate. Julian knows he needs to utterly destroy the New Sunnyvale in order to claim what he always wanted, control of the Old Sunnyvale and he accepts that there will be collateral damage. Julian manipulates Jim in season 9 much the same way Jim manipulated Julian in season 8. I think this is true though; by the time Julian convinces Jim to sign over the park, Jim had already completely destroyed himself.

Agreed.
The scene near the end of S9 with everyone yelling at Jim to get the gently caress out was still a little unsettling.
