I figure that's probably why they moved it to honey oil, because that's still illegal, but Season 8 was my first Season, and I've binge watched everything up to 407, so I can't remember if they still treated him growing like it was a problem in Season 8.

I had the exact same experience. I saw the movie in 2008, but had no other exposure to the show until Season 8 came out. Binge watched it, then seasons 1 to 7. Didn't notice a drop in quality like people keep talking about, but like you said, binge watching masks a lot of flaws.
