Welcome to the 8th Main Match....Power or Influence



In this game you will have to make the choice between garnets and winning, but must be careful not to make the same choice as your competitors.

Rules

1) This game will take place over 6 rounds. Each round you will have to choose an area to occupy.

2) Each area has two commodities: Power and Influence. These are in an inverse relationship.

Area A (Attic): 1 Influence, 4 Power
Area B (Office): 2 Influence, 3 Power
Area C (Bedroom): 3 Influence, 2 Power
Area D (Library): 4 Influence, 1 Power

3) For every other person that goes into the same area as you, the total of Influence and Power is -1 (ie if two people are in Area C then they both get 2 influence, and 1 power. If there are three people in Area C they get 1 Influence and 0 Power.) This cannot drop below 0.

4) Each round you must go to a different area.

5) You must inform me of what area you are going to before anyone is allowed to move.

How to Win

In this game, winning and gaining Garnets are opposed to each other.

At the end of the game Influence will be exchanged for Garnets at a rate of 3 Influence for 1 Garnet.

However, if a person ends the game with 20 or more Influence, they will gain 10 Power in addition to whatever power they earned.

The winner will be the person with the most Power. They will receive two tokens of life, but no additional garnet prize.

The loser will be the person with the least Power.

If two people scored the least amount of Power, then whoever gained more Influence will be the loser. If this does not solve the tie, then the winner will choose the death match candidate.

Spending Garnets

Once per game, after everyone has chosen their area, you may spend 5 Garnets to privately hear what area everyone is in and move to a new area (this cannot be the same area as the previous round). This will be first come, first serve, and I will announce when you are permitted to request this.

Game Flow

There will be strategy time dispersed throughout, but limited time in each area to discuss.

You will have 20 minutes pre-game to discuss your strategy. After which I will announce Round 1 is about to begin. You must PM me what area you are moving to before anyone is allowed to move. Then I will announce it is time to move and you can move to your new area. As with Food Chain, once you have entered your area you may not leave. You MAY NOT move until I give the okay, this is to ensure that nobody knows who is in what area before they make their initial decision. If you mess this up you will receive no Power or Influence for that round. Pay attention.

Once everyone has chosen an area I will announce in all rooms simultaneously that you may now spend garnets if you wish to move. The first person to message me will complete the transaction. This person's movement will be announced publicly. If nobody chooses to spend garnets that will be announced after 1 minute.

After which everyone will have 5 minutes before moving for Round 2. After Round 2 there will be another 20 minutes for strategy, and again after Round 4.

Influence and Power will be shown at the end of the game only when it is time to declare a winner and hand out Garnets.

To summarize:

Pre-game strategy: 20 minutes
Round 1: Oppotunity to spend garnets, 5 minutes
Round 2: Oppotunity to spend garnets, 5 minutes
Mid-game strategy: 20 minutes
Round 3: Oppotunity to spend garnets, 5 minutes
Round 4: Oppotunity to spend garnets, 5 minutes
Mid-game strategy: 20 minutes
Round 5: Oppotunity to spend garnets, 5 minutes
Round 6: Oppotunity to spend garnets, 5 minutes

Yes, you keep all of your influence and power you received, and in addition gain 10 bonus power (so you will likely have more than 10 power at the end if you reach this threshold).

Yes, it's a one use only power.

Welcome to the 8th Death Match....Tactical Snakes and Ladders



In this game the two elimination candidates, with the help of their partners, will navigate a game of Snakes and Ladders in order to be the first to reach the finish.

Rules

1) Only the two elimination candidates get a piece on the board. In this game the blue H piece will be for Hal Incandenza and the red F piece will be for Fast Luck.

2) How many spaces a player moves is up to all four people.

3) Each turn all four players will choose either 0 or 1. The piece will move how many spaces as there were 1s chosen. So if all four players choose 1, the piece will move 4 spaces.

4) Players and their partner will each discuss their move in a separate IRC room, but all four participants will message me privately (via IRC) what their move is. You will only have 2 minutes to decide whether you are choosing 0 or 1, so discuss quickly.

5) If a piece lands on the bottom of a ladder, that piece will move to the top of the ladder. If a piece lands on the head of a snake, it will fall to the tail of the snake.

6) Once a ladder or a snake has been used it will be removed from the board and cannot be used again.

7) The first player to reach or pass the last space will be the winner. The other will be eliminated.

Game Flow

There will be a picture version of the board and a code version of the board. The picture version will be posted at the beginning of the game and will be reposted whenever a ladder or snake is removed from the game. Moves will be carried out via the code version of the board. The code version has been updated so hopefully it's easier to read. Snakes and Ladders are represented by capital and lower case Ss and Ls. When you land on a capital letter you move to the lower case letter. When this is a snake you will move from S down to the corresponding s lower on the board, when this is a ladder you will move from L to the corresponding l higher on the board.
