Is it possible for a SATA or power cable to cause HDDs to start clicking?

I have replaced my brand-new 3TB Toshiba four times. Every time, right after I plug it in, it starts clicking. When I switch it to a different SATA/power cable, it continues clicking nonetheless.

It is the third drive in my desktop (SSD + HDD + HDD). All my other drives are doing perfectly fine — my Hitachi is at least six years old!

I have to assume I’m having very bad luck, or my cables are busted somehow.
