Pretty sure all music we heard was new, which is weird because the VN's music is actually pretty good, and they are already re-using some of the VN sound effects, like the weapon clashes. They have to include some VN music sooner or later, there's no way around it.

Nasu's writing has its kinks, but one thing he does well is writing flawed characters. Except for Shinji, he is just a prick. And for people who ask for more blood, you're going to love the next episode.

The whole scene went a bit differently in the VN. Shinji didn't start the boundary field in an empty classroom, but a full one, thus the melting students there. Oh and we never actually saw Caster herself, that was the only off-screen battle in the entire VN. And from what I can tell the next episode will be a talky one, but we'll get more Kotomine, so yay?
