It would seem that third time's the charm with the will of the universe bit. Toph first became relevant in the swamp episode (prophesy dream) and she might have really pulled a Yoda by tapping into the lifeForce of the cosmos. We even get a magic tree fight sequence.

Did anyone notice Korra is in a pool of liquid that looks like the mercury poison used on her in the trailer?

So given that three years later it's almost a guarantee that the korra/mako romance subplot comes back. The characters have matured and so hopefully it won't be as terrible? HOPEFULLY?

So I believe the text is actually "President Kuvira."

I'm still on the fence about whether to watch this show. I wanted more avatar when this show first came out but seeing that trailer has made me even more apprehensive about watching it. One one hand it looks like some cool stuff has happened and will go down but on the other it feels like ATLA fan fiction.

Pure speculation, but: it looks to me like Kuvira is leading the Metal Clan (or an offshoot thereof) into conquering/forcefully reuniting the shattered Earth Kingdom, basically making her the anti-Red-Lotus. I can see her making a decent argument that people NEED law and order to function and prosper; her problem, of course, will be erring on the side of total control, enforcing HER law and HER order with violence. Then again, after three years of total anarchy, I can see some people in the Earth Kingdom welcoming a rigid police state if it means they can feel safe in their homes again. All the villains we've had so far have been terrorists or terrorist organizations going against the established order (yes, even Unalaq). We haven't yet seen anyone going in the opposite direction. That's what I think Kuvira is going to represent, and that's (one of) the things I think 'Balance' refers to; the balance between safety and freedom, between chaos and control, between the rule of law and individual agency.

I don't think it is too unrealistic to expect korra to be unhitcched when the series concludes. Aang's situation was different in that there were pretty hefty narrative reasons to address his romantic future. He needed somebody to have kids with so that they could show airbenders in the future, and they'd constructed his avatar-state rage in such a way that he needed his ~true love~ aroound to snap him out of it. Neither of these things is a consideration with Korra. Mako's overall role was kinda minimized last season, and the way they summarily ended the ongoing romantic drama offscreen after dedicating so much screentime to it in season 2 always seemed like a "poo poo, guys, maybe we should stop doing this?" move to me. not gonna happen PupsOfWar fucked around with this message at 19:04 on Sep 27, 2014 |

Now I agree with that statement -- especially regarding the wingsuits. The mechas (although cool, they look like Big Daddies!) look like they're an entire generation ahead of the 1930s-ish clunky tanks that have already been seen, and the wingsuits do look really weird and superhero-comic-bookish.

Some creators seem to go off the rails without editors. Case in Point: Gargoyles. If you thought the show was getting a little weird at the very end and with the Goliath Chronicles, you should read some of the stuff the guy has written about "what happens after the show was over" because it is fanfiction-tier stuff.

Y'all know that wingsuits are a real thing in the real world, right? (As opposed to mechs) (sadly) If I controlled the winds, making suits like that would be the first drat thing I ever did. It's frankly a shock that it took the Air Nation this long to do it. (Though being dead might have inhibited it a little)
