If only there was something in the trailer that would tell us whether or not this was the final season.

And by the way, when Books 3 and 4 were ordered, Mike and Bryan said that that would be the end of the series. And that order was made before Book 2 aired to very disappointing ratings, so, as with the original series, it's ending when the creators want it to.

Thread title should have been Legend of Korra Book 4: They're All In Their Twenties Now.

Also, there is no way in hell we could have seen Nickelodeon advertise a show starring a bunch of twenty year olds. I'm willing to bet the move to online-only was specifically caused by Mike and Bryan going "So we end the third season with Korra in a wheelchair and Book 4 happens three years later when none of our main characters are teenagers anymore."

Kuvira also has the baddest-rear end fighting style there is.

I'm more worried that Kuvira -- who's really awesome so far -- will pull an Unalaq :saddowns: and ends up being the one who sent the bandits after Kai and Opal, just so the governor has no choice but to turn to her protection.
Considering we saw just a few scenes earlier that Kuvira had a group of bandits pledge their loyalty to her, this is almost certainly going to happen, and I'm an idiot for not realizing it until now.

That's why I jokingly abhor this show's message. I had 11 year old cousins who saw the equalists and just labelled them all "jealous". 3 years later and they labelled the ferguson protestors as a mob of jealous people. Back when I was a kid my superhero cartoons taught me to mistrust the powers that be.
4/5ths of the government in Book 1 were portrayed as corrupt bigots ruled by fear and jingoistic rhetoric.
Seriously, watch "When Extremes Meet" again. A lot of what that episode does isn't followed up on, but you can't say it isn't there.

That was a wasted opportunity. 70% of RC's problems were fixed by Raiko being elected and when it looked like the other 30% (along with duck off spirit vines) would do Raiko in it turned out that grumpy spirits just gave the political establishment millions of tourist bucks. (Along with looted treasuries the show will never talk about)

So did Toph throw away all her Bei Phong prestige or did her daughters just dump all of their influence into rehabilitating criminals in one country and arresting them in another?
The show's making it clear that Raiko's apparent approval of Prince Wu is him playing politics, and that it's lovely of him to do so.
One of the worst things about the ending of Book 1 was that it seemed like the three non-Tarrlok assholes on the Councils were all gonna stay in power and poo poo would still suck. I'm sure Mike and Bryan have learned their lesson and we're not going to end the series with Prince Wu on the throne.

I do not understand how the most cartoonish and silly person in this series is loved by everyone. You can't stand Bolin whistling for five seconds but a Varrick, whose whole character who is jokes with that level of painful awkwardness is golden.
Varrick has never once deflated tension in a dramatic moment. And unlike Bolin, the joke is never entirely at his expense. Even when he's made to look like an rear end (his airbender detector comes to mind), his completely shameless attitude works because at the core of it is the fact that he's motherfucking Varrick and he will always win, even when he goes to prison, because he loving built a luxury prison cell specifically for him how is that not the most goddamn amazing thing?

Also he got Mako thrown in prison and has never apologized for it and in fact talks to him cheerily about how great his plan to frame him worked.

Wu's portrayal I think definitely shows him as being well meaning to a degree. He has shown none of the arrogance that would immediately mark him as "Dickbag". Mako's from the slums and their extended family from Ba Sing Se are poors, and Wu has shown no inclination he cares about that, whereas a more unredepemptive character would certainly have shown some sort of contempt for Mako's station and how dare he mock him the Once and Future King.

I could see Wu being more like whichever Tsar ruled in 1905 who gave in to giving Russia a Parliament except more so. The Earth Kingdom becoming a Constitutional Monarchy would solve most of its problems.

Which ironically enough ties in to 1911 Xinhua Revolution and the Boxer Rebellion before that and so on. China under the Qing becoming a Constitutional Monarchy early enough might have prevented well, everything.
He was pretty arrogant when he hit on Asami, but his arrogance seems to come from a total lack of self-awareness rather than something more toxic. He's spoiled, but not entitled.

Also can I just say how awesome it is for a Nickelodeon show to have an incredibly tense scene where two women discuss geopolitics? Because that conversation between Su and Kuvira was basically Game of Thrones for teens.

I actually like Prince Wu now, which is great. It didn't actually take that much to make him have his epiphany, which feels right, since he's never been malicious about anything, just sheltered and coddled. He's basically a child for reasons beyond his control, which makes him a great foil for Mako, the boy who was forced to grow up too soon.
