"The world is a hellish place, and bad writing is destroying the quality of our suffering."

WHAT'S ALL THIS ABOUT?

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel--the third installment in the Borderlands series--takes a time-twisting detour by going back in time and focusing on events that took place prior to Borderlands 2. Set on Elpis, Pandora's moon, you'll initially be able to play as one of four characters (with at least one additional character, Handsome Jack's body double, which will be available via DLC) who are hired by a young and morally grey Handsome Jack to do things that may not be particularly nefarious...at least initially. Also, you'll encounter familiar characters on your journey, including Moxxi, Mr. Torgue, Roland, and Lilith. What are they all doing on Pandora's Moon? Does it matter???

As usual, the game focuses on running around in a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi setting, killing a wide array of enemies and collecting loot that is (mostly) randomly generated--hence the "87 Bazillion Guns" thing.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel releases* for PC, PS3, and XBox 360 on:
October 14th, 2014 in North America
October 16th, 2014 in Australia
October 17th, 2014 in Europe

*According to 2K Australia's Tony Lawrence, they have entertained the idea of also putting the game on PS4 and XBone, saying "If fans say, 'Hey, we'd really like this on a next-gen console,' well, we'll think about that. But right now, we're concentrating on the consoles we know."

:siren:Here's an INFORMATIVE TRAILER starring Mr. Torgue and Hammerlock.:siren:

STARRING:

Nisha, Borderland 2's Sheriff of Lynchwood makes an appearance as a dual-wielding, aim-botting sadist with a play-style that emphasizes aggressive solo strategies.

Athena serves as a sort of stern-faced tank character, absorbing damage with her "Kinetic Aspis" shield and chopping poo poo up with her sword.

The very same Wilhelm that ended up on a train in Borderlands 2. Because his skills primarily focus on the two robots he summons in battle, Wilhelm fulfills a similar role to the Gaige or Axton. Certain skills will also augment Wilhelm's appearance, turning him increasingly robotic.

Something of a wild card. Claptrap's VAULTHUNTER.EXE skill will randomly and temporarily transform him--he might receive similar skills to a character from a previous game, or turn into a wizard, or even a pirate ship! The point is that a lot of Claptrap's skill is derived from a roll of the dice...and sometimes it can backfire.

...AND ALSO FEATURING:

OXYGEN MECHANICS: Because a lot of the game will take place on Pandora's moon, Elpis, you'll frequently be working with limited oxygen in airless, low-gravity environments. In addition to being able to equip a new series of O2-related items called "Oz Packs" that will dictate your air supply (among other bonuses), you will also be able to absorb it from natural geysers, salvage oxygen tanks from enemies, and blast the masks right off of enemies, causing them to suffocate a la Metro 2033. NOTE: When you run out of air, your health will tick down very slowly. The developers have gone out of their way to say that the oxygen mechanic is not going to be so over-bearing that you feel constantly rushed to get from point A to B.

Here we see Wilhelm robo-punching the face mask off of an opponent.

LOW GRAVITY: Did we say low-gravity? Because Elpis is small as poo poo, too, which means you'll be double-jumping all over the place like some kind of frog. A space frog that can jump 30 feet into the air.

BUTT-SLAMMIN':

And after jumping into the air, you'll be able to perform a rapid drop that will damage enemies around you (affectionately called the BUTT SLAM). The aforementioned "Oz Packs" affect this maneuver, such as modifying the damage it does. So get out there and slam some rear end!

A NEW DAMAGE TYPE:
In addition to damage types like Shock and Corrosive (but not goddamned Slag, because if you've been paying attention to the timeline, you'll realize that that's not in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel) "Ice" makes an appearance as a new damage type. You can freeze enemies and then smash them into tiny pieces, just like in Demolition Man.

NEW WEAPONS:
The game's got lasers in it, now.

And giant robotic suits.

NEW INTERACTIONS:
As opposed to BL1 and BL2 (where they typically only made brief, generic quips) player characters in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel are supposed to be "chattier". They'll talk more and they'll have more involved interactions with NPCs. For example, if the player chooses Athena, they'll find that a particular NPC has quite the affection for their character.

LESS BULLSHIT:
It looks like the game will follow a more "linear" progression model in weapons and health (like Borderlands 1) instead of the "exponential" model in Borderlands 2 that, at higher levels, turned everything into huge bullet-sponges and caused weapons to become useless after only a few levels. Hooray!
