Floodland is the best album.

One major problem with goths, and I know/have known way more goths than anyone ever should probably, is that in my experience they won't listen to music that clearly sounds like it shares the goth aesthetic but isn't a band that literally looks/labels themselves as "goth".
That's always been funny to me because goth is *all* about aesthetics. There's no real political coherency or consistency, like maybe punk. It's just mood, look, and some gloomy themes. That's how I think about it.

Prosymna is the best gothiest band right now:

Alter Der Ruine is cool and good. From Tucson:

Some cliche goth music (that's also good!):

Ok Mylene Farmer isn't a "goth musician" but a popular French pop star, but she's also the gothiest goth that ever goth'd, and I'll defend that until I'm buried in the cold, dark, unforgiving ground:

I also think this is goth as gently caress:

Some of the local goths in Austin keep them on rotation. Filmed during the horrible drought in Texas a few years ago. Goth is a mood, attitude, aesthetic. That's all it really is.

Oh the '80s bassist from Fields of the Nephilim is in this band now, and I think the Elysium producer (the Pink Floyd guy) did one of their albums:

Rhythmic. If you're over 30 and goth, you'll like it! :feelsgood:

Can't wait to check out all these links. I wouldn't be surprised if we see more goth-influenced music in the near future as the 80s seems to be popular again. It's definitely already happening with metal. A lot of black metal bands are trying to bring in a post-punk sound, or have a goth side project (like Beastmilk, now known as Grave Pleasures).
I think we are, especially with some relatively popular bands like Austra. Maybe it's a reaction against how so much indie music now is so twee it makes your teeth hurt, at least it does for me.

The interesting think about that video is how dark and gloomy it is, and how goth it is, but it's like ... a 19th century goth. It's not the cobwebs-and-candelabras thing that's been so played out (though I do love that stuff). But the themes in there are like old-school goth-as-gently caress occultism. You expect they'll start burning witches or something.

I dunno. Maybe some self-identified goth types don't like it because it's more popular. I've heard the derisive term "hipster goth," like oh please! Did they think this stuff was obscure in the 1980s in Britain? It wasn't incredibly popular, but goth bands were charting at the time, on pop TV shows, etc.

*rises from the grave*

New EP from Double Echo is good.

Also seconding Drab Majesty. Saw them a few weeks ago, live show had poor sound but it might've just been the venue. They've still got panache and The Foyer is one of the most sublime goth songs I've heard in awhile. And the guy is pretty I mean drat.

New Eden House record is out

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdfHSspwxIY

https://theedenhouse.bandcamp.com/album/songs-for-the-broken-ones

Gothic easy listening / bedroom music with Tony Pettitt (ex-Fields of the Nephilim) on bass. I like it because I am past the age of 30 and life is about chilling, baby!

Monica Richards of Faith & The Muse doing vocals on most of the tracks. Not that one, though.
