Bloody Hedgehog posted:Word on this. I think the first revelation when playing a flight sim with Track-IR comes when you realize that instead of getting in turning fights and following a little red blip at the edge of the screen indicating the enemies direction., you can simply look over and visually watch the enemy as you slew your plane around to bring them into sights. It makes very complex compound rollovers extremely easy, but that brings with it the risk of flat spins and other comical things like the wings falling off. I'm n'thing the 'couldn't do without my expensive tracking peripheral now'. Also, the Cobra III has excellent above canopy visibility in E:D, making the full speed swoops around stations all the better, although it looks less cool when you plow into the back of a Lakon. Is the multiplayer on BoS just a free for all, or have we organised at all?

Until dedicated servers and the mission editor are out, we're limited to the options the public servers give us. Some have fairly elaborate scripted PVP missions, others just have dogfights. Even then it's still fun to play as a group and coordinate, though.

Is there a plan for an eventual co-op campaign in BoS? It would be really fun, from fighters to multiple players hopping in a single bomber. One of my favorite things from Rise of Flight was that when you start a single player campagin career thingie, you could make a profile for your pilot and join a squad. There you would follow the squad on day to day missions that varied and I am guessing that they were all based on actual historical records because spergy things like weather and recon missions would pop up depending on where you were. In that squad, you could see supposed real life pilots and then you could also see other players that just so happened to choose your group (there are a lot) and what their personal stats are. It was an interesting way to connect players that don't play online. It's not really any different than a high score table but the way it was presented was interesting for a games like this. Teeter posted:Thief, you always post the best videos here but then again I am heavily biased because Aesop is my favorite artist and he's been in like four of yours. Finally got around to reinstalling some proper video editing software so I'll probably be spamming the plane threads with videos in glorious 60fps.

Planes porn! Just single player though; I am still a scrub. Was flying in my IL-2 w/Yak escort and came across 4 Stuka with some 109s escorting. Attacked and despite my lumbering plane and heavy bomb load, got 3 Stuka. This was a lesson in how to use the rudder as those heavy rear end bombs really pulled my nose down in any sort of turn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGwlRjDarEc

Finally had time to try this out after buying it on steam sales. Still have to fine tune opentrack and all the controls, but I flew through the tutorial and did the first mission. Intercepted bombers, shot both down. On the way back I stumbled on a big fight and engaged the stukas that thought they were safely heading back. I really enjoy that "random encounters" bit of it all. I'm pretty new to flight sims, so having any sort of campaign is nice. The game looks great as well.

Is there any way to unlock modifications without completing the missions in that aircraft? I only ask because i want all of the He-111's for some added firepower when i decide to do a quick mission against them. But god im awful at anything besides dive bombing. However im proud to have every Yak-1 and il-2 skin and mod..

They just announced that unlocks will be removed (not counting skins) for Premium purchasers, or those who own both expansions planes. For a mere $30, that can be you!

777 Studios posted:Owners of Premium accounts will be able activate all modifications without unlocking them in Campaign mode. You have a Premium account if you bought Premium edition, or Standard edition plus both additional planes: La-5 and Fw 190 A-3. Activating modifications cannot be reverted so you must make a considerate and thoughtful decision before you click the button. Note that this button doesn’t activate unlockable plane skins which remain obtainable through the Campaign. tl;dr: Mission editor and server coming in a few months, summer/fall versions of the main map and more campaign coming later. In other news, a sequel entitled "Battle of Moscow" has been announced, which will include a new map and another ten planes, including the I-16 type 24. Presumably it'll be multiplayer-compatible. Looks like 777 is keeping their word about the business model for this franchise. The Premium planes are on sale for 50% off until February 20th, and if you buy both you have the option to instantly get all the unlocks just like a Premium owner. Now all that needs to happen is this goes on sale with a fairly deep cut, and multiple goons in this thread confirm that now that dedicated servers are up that this is the definitive way to play WW2 fighting planes online with other goons. And then I'll jump in with both feet. Racing sims and Elite have been treating me right over the last few months, but I may be done with Elite for good, and I'm down to maybe one race a week... so I could stand to use my nerdpit for something else.

The flight model doesn't suck, it's prettier, the planes are more accurate and detailed, the bulk of the content isn't locked away behind a grind you can host your own servers and make complex missions... Really, all it's missing is player-controlled tanks, and they've actually demoed an (extremely basic) proof-of-concept of that a year or two ago. Doubt they'll invest resources in it, but you never know.

Hahaha if anything was going to wake you up it'd be the dedi for BoS coming out. Death from below can still be a thing, sometimes, but to be honest, flying high and clean seems to have way more advantages. Ralith and I played a bit on full realism servers and I found this to be the case, at least.

Once the weather gets nice if you start spending your Sundays flight simming with us instead of riding that kick rear end bike of yours to Port Dover for fish & chips I'm personally coming back to beat some priorities in you. And then get fish and chips.
