I bought CK2 like 2 years ago and played some of the tutorial and didn't touch it again until a few months ago. I skipped the tutorial and ended up playing 60 hours in one week

Would you consider the Total War series map games? I mean, it's basically the same concept and the Total War series does have some turds but also some good A+ fun games.

I would, since I spend most of my time in the world map just autoskipping battles. It's probably more of an RTS though.

Can you use mods in MP? Specifically, the mod that adds a lot more custom division icons?

I would like a map game where you run a S.P.E.C.T.R.E. style worldwide criminal organization. Kind of like Evil Genius's map mode but way more complex.

Re: Stellaris, It’s cool that you actually have to put a lot more initial thought and planning into starting wars, and that the warscore goals and rewards system seems less screwed up. I’m REALLY glad that you actually have to put some thought into modifying different types of ships for different roles and setting up good fleet compositions instead of just spamming a jillion of the same high level battleship to win everything- but unfortunately, the total ship limit is really very limited, even in smaller games. Having to wait for your home systems sphere of influence to expand a little further before you can take an uncontested star system was just stupid and it’s great that they got rid of that. Overall, the update fixes a lot of issues (and adds a few issues) but it’s definitely a step forward, and anyone saying old Stellaris was better than 2.0 is a total brainlet.

My biggest problem with Stellaris is unfortunately not really changed, though, which is that the randomized alien empires are a total jumble without any meaning or cohesion so interacting with them and strategizing around them is just kind of a bland chore and the only real way to enjoy the game to the fullest is to turn random empires off and spend a few hours designing a bunch of custom races that actually have some depth to them.
