colonization and the tech tree are both really badly handled in vicky 2 like, some parts of north america won't be colonized until halfway through the period because you haven't discovered the technology of "oppress natives really super good" and technology is tied to years

more significantly though is it's not as fun to play v2 as a small country since so much of the game's mechanics are based on who the powers are.

if you've never played a mapgame then eu4 is an excellent choice. i have some problems with it to be sure but it's super accessible and absolutely has the best designed UI so it's great for people who are new to paradox stuff

eventually after playing eu4 for a while maybe you'll think you wanna do more stuff with the leaders and people in your country and you'll pick up ck2, or you'll wanna do a bunch of war stuff and kill hitler so you'll buy a hearts of iron game, or you'll get crippling ocd and buy victoria 2
