Pacing seems a little better for this episode. Still not great but better than the pilot.

Yeah John is definitely the high point, but he kind of should be so that's fine. Edit: "I was thinking up a spell in my head." Luchadork fucked around with this message at 03:40 on Nov 1, 2014 |

One area I feel the show could improve with would be to make it a little darker in tone. Like...not that there hasn't been some dark stuff and I'm not saying it needs to get so dark it would have to move to HBO, but my original intro to Constantine was his appearance in that early Sandman story where he has to take Morpheus to get the dream sand back from John's junkie ex. When they find her she's so hosed up on the sand that her house is like a decaying nightmare and she's practically a corpse. Ghost coal miners aren't really spooking me out. Edit: Oh poo poo, how about The Corinthian as a monster some day? That would be rad.

Maybe I'm just trying to like this show but I'm really digging this episode so far. Some grim poo poo going down.

This was definitely the best episode so far by leaps and bounds. Kind of disappointed they didn't show the massacre at the club, though. Drop that pointless scene with the daughter listening to the record that went nowhere too.

I always felt like the film was a really good movie, but a poor adaptation of Hellblazer. Like if they had called it Keanu's Satanist Adventure and his character wasn't named Constantine, I'd have no complaints about it.

Constantine in New Orleans dealing with voodoo really should not be able to be bad, in theory.

I kind of like Zed, she's not amazing or anything but so far she's been competent and doesn't take away from any scenes she's in. Wouldn't mind having out left out of an episode here and there though, and just have Constantine running solo.Dave Syndrome posted:On an unrelated note, I loved the green cloak of mist Zed saw around Corrigan. Yeah, I marked out a little for that part.

Well, hopefully the ratings continue to go up for the rest of the season. Episodes 3-5 have been really fun. With that said though I don't know what NBC expects when you put a show on at 10pm on Friday nights, and then have the second episode fall on Halloween.

Bill Shatner supports Constantine. What a wonderful world we live in. Thinking of buying all the current episodes on Google Play. Got a friend who hasn't seen the show and wants to binge on it soon.

Boo. Watching the Macy's Parade because I'd heard Constantine was going to be represented but all it was was a two minute throw-away segment with Roker interviewing Ryan and Zed in the crowd. Don't know why but I expected more.

Yeaaaaah I officially love this show.muscles like this? posted:He suffers from Wolverine syndrome, where just because he can regenerate he is constantly being grievously injured. If they really want to make this dark it should be that Chaz can and does die from his injuries every time, he just comes back to life and THEN heals.

Bored posted:I thought that's what they implied with the emt's. I thought they were getting ready to attempt to resuscitate him because he had no vital signs. That and his original appearance in the pilot were definitely deaths. This one was like...actually, he may still be crushed between those cars while Constantine smokes and delivers an internal monologue, haha.

Desperado Bones posted:This was originally going to be episode 2, perhaps because of the introduction of Zed and all those changes they decided it wouldn't fit well. Woah, seriously? I thought the absence of Zed was a little odd but that was it. I didn't really follow the development of the show, didn't even know about it really until the trailer hit. Is there a good place to go to read up on it's initial development cycle?

I hope they count Hulu views because that's essentially how I watch. I watch a lovely stream live but I always watch again the next day so I can see it in non-buffering vision. The joys of cutting cable.

Valeyard posted:That's what I was looking for, I'll keep watching The pilot is an absolute mess. Apparently it was re-shot and chopped up after wrapping because they decided to go with a new female lead. The second episode is more coherent but is, IMO, pretty dull. Episode 3 is a huge improvement and it gets a lot better from there.

Apparently Constantine is a nominee for the People's Choice Award for best new drama or something. I don't know if anyone gives a rat's rear end about the award but I voted anyhow. http://vote.peopleschoice.com/#!/home/all/85/2

Considering that the show is on at 10pm I don't see why they can't get a little darker. Like, I don't even feel like this is X-Files/Millennium dark. If you're going to put it in a late-night death slot at least let them cut loose a little.

GreenNight posted:There was an interview a few weeks back with the network, and they basically said they wish live numbers were better. They mentioned DVR numbers are excellent but that won't keep the show afloat. It's like, you put the show on in a death slot and just when the ratings go up you move it up a little earlier; it should be no surprise the show's ratings are all over.
