2024 and you still have to switch locales to play VN's. Hilarious

They apparently broke the switch version too similarly but it got patched within the hour.

Does just work when you swap to japanese locale/make steam deck play the game in japanese language mode (or whatever the linux equivalent is). They really did just forget to test it in other locales.

Are the Fate/Extella games good? Both The Umbral Star and Link are on discount and I was interested in them.

You cheated not only the game, but yourself.
But most of all, you cheated BABA

Writing-wise? Kinda yes, but please read Fate/Extra first.

Gameplay-wise...? How's your tolerance for mindless grindy musou gameplay?

Gameplay-wise, I did not care for what little I played of Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star, but I enjoyed the hell out of Fate/Extella Link, where they basically fixed everything I felt was wrong with Umbral Star.

Story-wise, I never finished Umbral Star, so I can't speak for it, but Link was super fun and Charlie was legitimately a cool character to hang out with.

I read the Fate/Extra LP! About my tolerance for musou gameplay...it's so-so, I guess? I cleared two routes of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes and beat Hyrule Warriors Complete Edition, but I've bounced off other musou games I tried to play like One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3.

Extella proper is like, the most boilerplate musou you can get. Standard reference musou, like those standardized lab samples. Not terribly engaging, or engagingly terrible, just There. Story is better than Link though, mainly by being extremely Nasu, but Link also has way better gameplay across the board.

Extella Link really delivers on that ludicrous Servant power fantasy. It makes you feel more like a terrifying god of destruction than any other Musou I've ever played.

It also has shockingly competent AI for your NPC ally units. While you'll still be doing the bulk of the work during the missions, at the very least your allies are capable of taking care of themselves so that you don't need to spend every waking moment babysitting them to keep them alive. In general, unless a random event occurs in mission where the enemy forces go out of their way to target and try to eliminate one of your allies, requiring you to rescue them, you can just leave them to do their own thing.

I remember the first time playing through Extella Link, I had an objective during one stage to capture two specific fields and one of my NPC allies went to one while I went to another. Right about the time I finished capturing my field and was thinking, "Okay, time to get over to the other one and get started on it," I suddenly get a message in game about how my ally just finished capturing the field and were proceeding to the next objective. I legitimately had to pause the game shock and wait for a minute until it sank in that the NPCs were actually going to be contributing to clearing the stage instead of being dead weight that I'd have to constantly drop what I was doing to run off to rescue.

Do you guys think it's worth playing fate/samurai remnant NG+ if I sorta moderately liked but didn't love the first playthrough? The abruptness of the ending was a big downside for me and I know there are new sidequests and a new ending for NG+ but not if they're any more closure giving or I guess worth the time relative to having to mash through everything again

When you skip cutscenes, I think it'll tell you if the scene is new. So you can blast through it pretty fast while seeing new things and then make a save before the ending choice to see the alternate ending and true ending. You can also change the difficulty whenever you want outside of battle.

Not only does the game tell you when you have seen stuff before, some of the more interesting reveals happen really early on and so you can just blast your way through with your endgame character.
