I would unironically play the hell out of a yuri or BL Fate/stay night.

If you can put up with some so-so JRPG gameplay, Fate/Extra gets pretty gay if you pick the female protagonist and Saber or Caster as a Servant. I hear CCC is even more so but who knows if or when anyone's going to finish a fan translation of that

Huh, so about Da Vinci according to the TM Wikia and something I definitely missed since I've been skipping dialogue I wouldn't be able to read:

So an actual trans character as opposed to genderswapping!

Fate/Extra's Saber is one too, kinda; she has one dialogue event where she mentions she thinks of herself as being both male and female. (Her explanation for why she feels that way is a little essentialist about gender roles, but hey, she's from ancient Rome, cut her some slack.)

Yeah, he's almost certainly theoretically capable of destroying a Servant's body (if he manages to get a hit in before getting killed or dying of brain failure), but one of the limitations on his power is that he can only kill things that are capable of "dying" in some humanly comprehensible way, which a heroic spirit probably isn't.

As far as anyone knows, the dumb facebook thing has no direct connection to anything in-game; it was just to drum up publicity before release. You just have to sign up within the first few days after the game comes out.

i dont get it either because nero literally says she's bisexual and prefers women so she's hitting on you because you're a woman. if anything the male protag is the one that feels forced for nero.

tbf i can think of at least one specific scene in Nero's route where either the writer or the translator forgot that you might be playing as a girl. i don't remember all the context but Nero's talking about how major changes can be difficult to adjust to and gives "if you suddenly woke up as a girl" as an example. i think there were a couple of other lines that seemed to have been written under the assumption of a male protagonist too

I'm still not sure if Tamamo calling you "husband" regardless of gender is supposed to be a character thing, or a translation shortcut they try to pass off as a character thing

It's a combination of character thing and slightly odd translation choice. She calls you "goshujin-sama", which means "master" in modern Japanese but is also an archaic word for "husband". Given that she specifically aspires to be an ideal wife and (according to some of her conversations in Extra) has a little trouble getting her head around the concept of a same-sex relationship even if she's okay with being in one, it fits her well enough.

Is Extella heavy on plot like every other piece of Type Moon medias? I hear it's a fairly average Musou game but if it can compensate with a bunch of story and poo poo I'd considering it.

It's moderately heavy on technobabble and very heavy on your Servants telling you how much they want to have sex with you, if you count those as plot.

Seriously, though, the overall plot doesn't amount to that much but if you liked Nero and Tamamo from Fate/Extra then you get to interact with them some more.

I remember there being a discussion previously about Nasuverse character weights (with obvious exceptions like Iskander and Hercules) being oddly light.

That's not a Nasuverse-specific thing; a lot of Japanese media that give character heights and weights seem to have most characters bordering on dangerously underweight for some reason.

there's another interview where nasu talks about how he keeps coming back to writing relationship dynamics involving a physically strong woman supported by an emotionally strong man, and then basically says "but thinking back on it, even if it runs counter to stereotypes, if a character only shows one kind of strength then that's still pretty limiting, so i want to try and write a wider range of different characters and relationships in future"

so it's pretty clear he at least consciously considers this kind of stuff

Fate/Stay Night's depiction of its female characters is honestly pretty good. They all have personalities and goals and a good amount of screentime, a lot of time is dedicated to their inner workings and motivations, even side characters like Medea. They're all actively pushing the story along, at least in a couple of routes or instances. I guess Medea's 'I want to be a wife' shtick can be a little off, but considering her character and the fact that none of the other female characters in the story really have that going on, it feels more like just a personality trait of hers than any kind of weird biotruthism. Plenty of women in real life have that as a goal or dream of theirs.

Plus it's not exactly something Nasu pulled out of nowhere, since her myth revolves around a marriage that she proposed and that failed catastrophically. A lot of the Servants in F/SN basically want a do-over on the ways in which their original lives went to poo poo, so her motivation fits in with that.

From that description it sounds like Waver is moving relentlessly upwards by virtue of being the only magus with any sense whatsoever, only because magi are dumb they all think he sucks, including him.

He's pretty mediocre at the actual "using magic" part of being a mage, it's that being good at magic isn't really all it's cracked up to be. If Nasuverse mages weren't mostly a bunch of idiots chasing power that's more likely to get them killed than to achieve anything useful, they wouldn't be mages.

Anyone here played Fate/EXTELLA Umbral Star? It's on the PSN's new year's sale, and I was thinking of picking it up for an on-the-go game. So, two questions:
1. Is it fun for a Dynasty Warrior's clone?
2. Is the version on the PSN downloadable on the Vita? I can't find anything conclusive, even though I know it was technically released for both systems.

1. As a musou game, it's sorta average. As a Tamamo petting simulator, it's pretty solid.
2. If you can buy it on the PSN on your Vita, you can download it on your Vita.

And of course in Heaven's Feel he has to exist to make Sakura's situation even worse. Again, I think there'd be more tragedy to it if he was a nice enough guy to *not* want Sakura's life to be the way it was, but he was still too gutless to do anything about it, but at the same time I understand why he was written the way he was. Kotomine needed to be Shirou's only ally, but a nicer version of Shinji would probably have to overcome his fear around that time to complete his narrative arc. And having Shinji palling around with everyone in the ending would have been weird even in a universe where he wasn't a rapist. Maybe you could have had him try and stand up to Zouken on his own and get unceremoniously killed by Zouken or Hassan, but I get why there was a need to make Sakura's situation worse to justify why she felt like literally nobody but Shirou would ever be there for her.

I think you'd need to do quite a lot of rewriting to tone down Shinji while still making HF hit the same emotional beats; as it is, the way he treats Sakura sets up his death, which in turn sets the tone for the rest of the route, where you're kinda cheering for Sakura but also going "oh no" at the same time.

I've always thought that ORT looks exactly like an Etrian Odyssey postgame boss, which I guess is fitting

Once And Future King seems the most likely influence, a lot of the knights heavily echo White's interpretations. Galahad in part being "perfect" actually making him kind of creepy and inhuman is right out of White.

It's kind of a recurring theme in Nasu stuff that perfect good and perfect evil are both equally incompatible with humanity, too.
