I'm going to hope my irony detectors are just broken because otherwise uhhhhh.
Some people hate Sakura and also hate endings that are even remotely happy, possibly because Cindy never went to the dance with them in high school.

Shielder and Saber look pretty much nothing alike beyond being drawn by the same dude. Like, I mean, they're girls in anime with different hair/outfits/eyes. That's like 90% of the defining features right there.

Canrival Phantasm isn't any of that. It's just jokes. Some of the jokes miss, most of them land.

The closest it gets to any of that is a dating sim based gag, and, well that is a bad joke, but it's being played for laughs and not an actual attempt at fanservice. It's not like it's a fanservice series, it's a comedy series.

Speaking of, Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is 90% comedy, dating sim stuff, and fanservice, and 10% actual plot.

F/HA has some interesting parts to it but it's, again, 90% silly scenes. You could make the argument that it fleshes out the characters some, and there are a few beats like Rider and Lancer telling stories about their pasts, but it's nothing you can't live without seeing and it's just their myths and legends through the type-moon veneer.

The 10% plot is fairly interesting and explains a few plot holes in F/SN, but it's pretty short - on its own it'd be 2-3 hours long, maybe - and requires playing through the 90% silly/goofy stuff.

Fate/Extra has its own plot and the characters are all pretty likable but a lot of it gets lost in weird metaphysics, and it's pretty definitively Not Fate/Stay Night, or Fate/Zero, for better or for worse. The gameplay isn't that great, either, it's just extended Rock-Paper-Scissors-Spock.

It's in a similar boat to those games (from what I remember, anyway, I only played a bit of Ever17, unless 999 counts) but way less complex and involved than that. If you muddled through those, it should be smooth sailing.

This is true, but it also has some hilariously bad game design decisions. Like about half the things they added to the game are textbook lessons on what to do in a game (Caster's 1/3rd of the time I lose I actually win what the christ).
To be fair, that might be part of the gag. It was pretty clearly being played for laughs, rather than a legit attempt at making an awesome Hanafuda simulator.

UBW is a great adaptation, but there isn't much that's different from the VN.

It was just an anime thing, but it doesn't quite contradict the novels. If I remember right, the novels just mention a 'powerful magus using fire' without describing them or giving a name to them, so ufotable just put Corny in as a callback.

Yeah, part of the problem with KnK is that the cast is small and very few of them get any real focus. F/SN has a huge cast where everyone gets at least a bit of attention, even the minor students if you take F/HA into account, but KnK is basically the Ryougi show. Even Touko and Kokutou don't get a whole lot.

Kotomine sees himself as inhuman, but that doesn't mean he is.

Kotomine is a huge bundle of issues. It isn't that he doesn't give a gently caress, it's that he gives way too much of a gently caress. His thing with Angra Manyu isn't just idle curiosity, it's him trying out to figure out the meaning of his entire life. Shirou has a pretty telling response in his monologue, if you can forgive me for yet another VN screenshot.
