MaskedHuzzah posted:It still bewilders me that to get the best ending you have to not immediately escape. How likely are you to be able to get the radio and everything set up in time on the first playthrough? The rescue isn't called off until you can hear it. So if you don't put the batteries in and then go to bed, you can just spam the radio for ten minutes until they mention the rescue's still ongoing, then head to the beach. A first time player won't know that, but anyone who's playing the game in this day and age can probably figure out the part about not putting in the batteries.

If memory serves, you have about three days from the point the raft is finished. Morning of the third day, you wake up to shaking, you go "Waugh!" or something to that effect, and gameover. It's not an ending, it's just the game telling you to pack your poo poo and go. As for traps, they can actually be quite useful if you know the right way to go about it. Set a trap or two and then just go to another screen or go do something else. IIRC cause it's been a few years since I last played, the game calculates the trap only once it comes back into view, but the time since it was set tends to affect it positively. If nothing's there, the trap's left alone, but if it procs a positive check, it'll instakill whatever spawns in that square and bam, fresh meat on the ground for you to walk up and grab.
