Uh, quick rules question! Am I allowed to retreat from 119 to 134 if/when the corp attack comes? And if I do before leading units are flipped, do I still take losses for retreating infantry from the reserve/different approaches?

Yes, and yes. Essentially, when a threat is declared, you declare which units are defending. If you declare none, you're retreating; one step loss in the reserve (two if it's a wide approach), and one step loss per approach you're occupying other than the attacking approach (two if it's wide).

So if I retreat now, I lose two steps total. If I meet this attack/feint (probably a feint) I lose three total. But I can force Legrande to advance his units, maybe?

Baaaaaah. Not worth it.

Since we haven't used Guard Attacks before, can you confirm that you understand the implications of it? First of all, you will lose morale just for showing the guards, you will not be able to use the feint option, you will have to lead with the guards, any defending 2 or 1 strength enemies will have their strength decreased and if you lose the guard attack you will lose even more morale (along with the one for losing the battle) and lose the guard attack option for the rest of the game.

I don't think it's a sure thing at all with an enemy unit in the approach. That turns your 3 strength attack into a 2 strength, yes?
