For me, It helps to be obsessed with something so I don't go stir crazy when I'm going for weeks or months without an acting job. Being a character actor myself (and constantly insuring people that I'm not the guy from 21 Jump Street), I find these people fascinating. I think it started when I saw the documentary "That Guy... Who Was in That Thing," which is a similar concept. I think it's so interesting that an actor can work and make a healthy living, and yet never really attain the status of a Clooney or Pitt, or that an actor could be nominated for an Oscar, but still manage to fly under the radar. We see them, and we forget them, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. It means they're doing their job. I write and narrate everything myself. This series has also been an education in editing. I've slowly learned how to work with Final Cut Pro X, and I can't imagine using anything else right now (even though I've heard it's awful, and Final Cut Pro 7 is better, or maybe even Adobe Premiere). It takes a long time to get an episode done just from the amount of research I need to do for each subject: any books they've written or any official autobiographies, not to mention the time it takes to sift through their IMDb credits and find footage of all the projects they've done. Then I watch all their projects and get a feel for their work and career. I also like to properly credit every project I can with the title, year of release, production company, and distributor. What do I hope to achieve with this? Like anybody, I'd love to be able to monetize it in some way. I operate on a zero budget and sometimes will go out of pocket to get an obscure, out-of-print movie or get one of their books to read. I'm not sure No Small Parts would ever work on television considering the rights to all the projects that would have to be secured. This seems to work as a web series since I can use whatever footage I want if it's for educational or critique purposes, which this is a little bit of both, I guess. Don't really watch anything like this on youtube usually but I gave this a shot because I liked your other stuff. I think they're very well made, with a good pace throughout. I can't believe I just watched a 25 minute long video about scatman crothers. You make good points too. Subbed and will be looking forward to more.

I was actually wondering if you already had a list of names you were working your way through. I just watched the Scatman Crothers episode and you're really knocking these out of the park. I especially dug in this episode how you dealt with the issue of race. It would be tempting to gloss over certain aspects of his films, but you took the time to provide a context through which to view his career. That's awesome. I'm curious: the first three actors you've done are all deceased. Did you choose them specifically so that you could cover their entire body of work? As far as suggestions, I've got a few: Xander Berkley Kurt Fuller James Rebhorn E.G. Daily S. Epatha Merkerson Mercedes Ruehl You could do an episode (or maybe just a mini) about characters actors who broke into leading roles like Paul Giammati, Philip Seymour Hoffman, etc. Anyway, I'm loving this series. It's hard waiting for each episode but totally worth it when I see how much research goes into each one.

Honestly, my first motivation for picking them was I would research them a little bit, and I just kept digging since they interested me. If I knew that I could get an interview with a character actor that's still alive and working, I would absolutely do that. Herman (who both live in Los Angeles), I think I could build up a little more legitimacy that would allow me to interview other subjects. I'd interview Priscilla Allen, but she died in 2007 from lymphoma. Stanley B. Herman has actually gotten back to me a few times after I sent him an e-mail.

This list would last me a lifetime right now. It takes a long time for me to do an episode. First, I research. I get a hold of every project I can that has the actor in it and watch everything. I don't watch everything all the way through sometimes, but just enough to understand the context of their character in the film, TV show, whatever. Then I get a hold of any books or autobiographies they've written. While I'm researching, I'm writing out a script for the episode. This whole process has taken me 2-3 weeks, sometimes longer if I end up too busy with auditions or acting classes. Then, I have to edit. I've been learning how to use Final Cut Pro X, and I've gotten better at it, but it's still a bitch to edit. Any film or TV show I have on my hard drive that isn't an .mp4 has to be converted using Handbrake. I queue up a list and let it convert for a couple days. Then I'm ready to edit everything. My computer runs pretty slow, unfortunately. I'm using a mid-2011 Macbook Pro with the RAM maxed out, and it's still barely keeping up with what I'm dishing it. The more clips I'm importing into the timeline, the slower it runs, especially if I'm editing something in HD. I'm thinking of actually starting a Kickstarter for an upgraded Macbook. It would just make things so much easier. I don't need something ridiculous like a Mac Pro, not editing 4K or anything, but man, there are days when I'm so frustrated with editing on this thing, I just want to throw it out the window. Because of that, the editing can take up to a month. And yeah, I think Clint Howard is a good idea. The history of child actors in Hollywood is really fascinating, and that's something that would be fun to get into.

You could probably get an interview with Stephen Tobolowsky, though his podcast almost negates the necessity for an episode. If you haven't heard it it's well worth your time.

If you want to do an episode on British character actors you could try David Bradley, Helen McCrory, Shirley Henderson or maybe Kevin Eldon. Although apart from Bradley I don't think many will have much appeal in the US.

I can see by the amount of views you definitely have a niche that's interested in these and your like/dislike ratio is golden so the content is right. When you have 1,080 likes and 4 dislikes you're basically getting a couple stupid contrarian votes. Movie aficionados will fully appreciate a thirty minute comprehensive look but the typical Youtuber probably won't. You might cast a wider net ($$$) if you had a condensed version of each of these (I could see myself watching dozens of those rapid fire). However, the longer ones are things I'd add to my watch later playlist to watch on the Roku later. Do your long one to fulfill the obsession and then somehow condense it and call it a quick take/minisode or something. Just my personal opinion. What I love about this videos is how they teach you just as much about the subject as a person as about them as an actor. It never feels like an half-hour video because it's paced so well. The only thing I can criticize is that the "pop"-sound you sometimes use, like when the arrows appear in the video of you as a kid, is a teeny-tiny bit too loud.
