Not anymore. They changed that a year or two ago. Also, it more or less just couldn't be worded as an additional fee back then.

bitcoin - apex predator of money

quote:

$1,000...$350... I couldn't care less. I'm more excited about Bitcoin today than ever before: (self.Bitcoin)
submitted 4 hours ago by CryptoDonDraper

There's a lot of money to be made in money. And this is obviously the path civilization is on now. I have been telling friends and family about Bitcoin for a couple years now.

Only recently have they started coming to me asking questions about it. "I heard Dell is accepting it?" ... "This could be really big, couldn't it? Will Apple Pay start allowing it do you think?"

These are the sorts of questions my non super tech savvy friends are asking. That's encouraging to see. I think we are much closer than we realize. I also do not think we need to worry about the alt coins; 95% of them will die out, the 5% that remain will be the ultimate fail safes in case Bitcoin falls victim to some unforeseen flaw or systemic government/centralized banking infiltration.

I don't see any threats on Bitcoin's horizon. Demand should pick up over the holidays.. lot of media coverage can be expected from Bitcoin Black Friday deals. We are rapidly becoming an apex predator in the financial world. Banks don't like us but they certainly are not laughing any more.

Yes, that's a pretty popular myth, I've written about it in my blog extensively: http://www.economicsjunkie.com/is-t...lic-or-private/
Summary:
The Fed and all rules associated with it were created by the U.S. Congress
Membership is mandatory for national banks by government law
Ownership of Fed stocks is mandatory for national banks by government law
The Fed’s Board of Governors is appointed by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is under majority control by the federally appointed Board of Governors
The products that the Fed deals in are produced and sold by the Department of the Treasury
The Fed is protected by the U.S. Government from competition in the products it deals in
The U.S. Government has, via a succession of different court rulings and laws, made the acceptance of Federal Reserve Notes required as a means to discharge all debts public and private
The U.S. Government receives around 98% of the Fed’s annual profit
I know there may be cases where the question of rather public or rather private may be difficult to decide, for example an oil company that competes with others in a market environment, yet receives government subsidies, or GSEs such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac before they were completely nationalized, etc.
But I don’t see how the US central bank could pose such a challenge by any stretch of the imagination – can there be any doubt that for all practical purposes the Federal Reserve System is a 100% public institution of the U.S. Government?

then of course

quote:

[–]i_wolf 8 points 11 hours ago*
"public institution"
It seems to me people confuse "public" and "government". The main point of saying that Fed is "private" is to say that it doesn't serve public interest. But that's the thing about government - it never serves public, it only follows its own interests, even when on the surface it seems otherwise. "Public" != "government"! "Government" = those who govern by force, everything else is irrelevant. Every law has private lobbyists who benefit from it, if that make it "private", then what does "government" mean?. FED is a monopoly created by government, protected by government, which essentially means it is a government.

quote:

[–]knight222 5 points 14 hours ago
Care to explain why the government has to borrow its money from the FED paid back with interest if they own it and receive most of its profit?

quote:

[–]Vibr8gKiwi 18 points 14 hours ago
And who do they appoint? Bankers. It's a group of banks run by banking insiders for banking interests. The perspective of these people is what is good for banks is what is good for the country. Just look at what has happened since 2008... who got bailed out (banks) and who got hung out to dry with average pay levels back down at the levels from the 90's (ordinary US citizens)?

etc etc

Literature is not exhaustible, for the sufficient and simple reason that no single book is. A book is not an isolated being: it is a relationship, an axis of innumerable relationships.

There was also the incident regarding the fellow with the pumpkins being shot where folks on the gun forum here assumed he was trolling then he went and shot a bunch of people.

That one is an actual example of Poe's law, as it was impossible to tell if the person was trolling or actually wanted to buy buckshot in order to shoot people over having his pumpkins smashed.

btw, FCKGW, when is the trial of the new buttwriter for violating the only rule of buttcoin, "don't touch the poop".
