There are a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market today that are just as tasty as the real thing.

Is it really that freaking hard to start a bitcoin fund?
The IRS ruled bitcoin as property. Structure it as a REIT, get it listed on an exchange, and let's get on with it!
There are over 8 trillion dollars invested in 401k and IRA plans in the US, 2000 times more than the current market cap of bitcoin. There are over 20 trillion in total retirement assets, or 5000 times the present market capitalization of bitcoin.
If just in the USA, people invested 1% of their retirement savings into bitcoin, the price of bitcoin would be 50 times higher. 0.1%? 5 times higher.

(but... why?)

quote:

Ah, the 1% fallacy..
If 1% of people gave me a dollar I'd be filthy rich. It doesn't mean anything without explaining specifically how you're going to capture that 1%.

quote:

https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf <- on these merits.

quote:

Then you're hosed.
No one cares how a plane flies, they just care that it does. No one studies the schematics of a 747 to understand the value of the aeroplane. The value is strikingly obvious. It'll get you from A to B in the shortest distance possible, at the highest speed possible for the cheapest price possible.
Where is Bitcoins strikingly obvious use case?

quote:

Its almost like this guy is using some kind of magic to communicate with strangers miles away, if only 1% of people did this we could have something useful.

quote:

Why not just form an actual counter argument?
'The internet did well!' isn't a particularly strong argument for Bitcoin. It's a strong argument for how good the Internet is, though.

quote:

No one gave a poo poo about the Internet back in the 80/90s. No one cared about how it worked or operated. Mainstream laughed at it, called people who used it nerds. Then people started to realize how easy and efficient the Internet was for the flow of information.
Bitcoin is set for doing the same for the flow of money, property, assets, contracts, and any other "apps" where a decentralized trust-less medium shakes the foundations of our current centralized systems. We're in the no one gives a poo poo how it works phase.

(this person was obviously born in the late 90s)

quote:

Your argument is still that Bitcoin will do well because the internet did well.
I could equally pick a less successful example technology and use the fact it failed to claim Bitcoin will therefore fail, but that'd be equally ridiculous.

quote:

No. My argument is that the blockchain technology is superior to our current systems.

U just got rekt, mate.

Very possible, its no theory that the government (which is only an extension of big corporate interests) employs internet trolls just to comment on certain things they want to steer public opinion on.

It is also no theory that bitcoin is a threat to the status quo, since they derrive their power from the fiat currency paradigm.

It is also no theory that the people in high places are not dumb and are not in those position for letting things go their natural way.

My thinfoil hat theory: everything in bitcoin is up except the price. Big money (and you dont even need that big of a portfolio to pull this off) is trading bitcoin downwards, even swallowing losses for it, to have the plebs sell their bitcoin for cheap.

They know they cannot do this forever, but as long as they can manipulate the price downwards it allows for them to buy for cheap and make bitcoin look bad for plebs that must remain plebs for them to be elite.

If bitcoin would have just mooned in 2013 the wealthy elite, kings queens and emperors would have been nerds like me and you wo where holding bitcoin. This can never happen ofcourse

that whole tinfoil theory also proves that people are ridiculously terrible with large numbers, there's this dissonance between gov't is printing infinimoney, gov't sees bitcoin as valuable but is doing these tiny ninja buys to keep the price low, and why doesn't the gov't just plop it's balls on the table menacingly and print infinimoney to buy out everyone?

the us gov't could swallow the entire bitcoin economy in one gulp aka the price of like a jet fighter if they put up 1000$ buys all around, a couple bil is literally fun money in the correct context
