Anyone else receive laughs when asking cashiers if they accept Bitcoin? (self.Bitcoin)

submitted 3 hours ago * by Cyrusis

A new small restaurant opened up in my small city. This restaurant is incredibly successful (due to word of mouth) and it's very hip, with mid-20s employees and owners. They also use an iPad app as their register. Upon seeing this, I was excited. I asked if I could pay in Bitcoin especially considering everything they needed was already on their counter. But they caught me off guard, because after asking, they (2 register girls, 2 cooks/potential owners) burst out laughing and one cook started ridiculing Bitcoin out loud for about 10 minutes in a tight space with about 25 customers in earshot. Scam, not safe, dangerous, the usual mainstream opinion but amplified by the guy that considered himself a tech-nerd (his words). I wasn't going to turn it into an argument so I paid with debit and waited for my food.

I encounter nothing but very annoying experiences when asking businesses about Bitcoin payment methods. For anyone else trying to pay with Bitcoin, are you being welcomed with similar nonsense?

The entire basis for their ruling hinges on this one sentence:

At this time, your analogy to the securities and futures industries and their traditional methods for buying and selling securities and commodities is not relevant for analysis of the Company’s obligations under the BSA.

This will go to court and eventually fall, if it is vigorously pursued, as it is clearly false. From a legal perspective, it is going to prove very difficult to argue that gold and bitcoin should share vastly different rules.

In the meantime, the USA is about to outlaw its own future.

Yup, everybody who runs a bitcoin ATM needs a MSB license. So all those companies building and selling those ATMs slot machines expecting people to buy them and operate them in their businesses are going to have to build a new business model boat to get to cuba.

ORDER

The Court is aware of the growing lack of civility and professionalism among the parties in this case and, therefore, puts the parties on notice of several options available to it if such conduct continues. Through its inherent power to maintain respect and decorum, the Court is granted the flexibility to equitably tailor a sanction that appropriately fits any misconduct. See Plaintiffs’ Baycol Steering Comm. v. Bayer Corp., 419 F.3d 794, 802 (8th Cir. 2005) (recognizing inherent power to sanction after notice and opportunity to be heard). Available sanctions include a lecture from the Court, a monetary penalty, a recommendation by the Court to the appropriate bar association that the attorney be subject to disciplinary action, or a public reprimand directly by the Court and made available on the Court’s website.1 See, e.g., Local Rule 83.6 (discussing attorney discipline). More extreme sanctions include disbarment or contempt findings

The Court recognizes that this is a contentious and vigorously disputed lawsuit. But the Court expects the parties to treat each other, the Temporary Receiver (which is appointed by, and serves as, an officer of the Court), and the Court with professionalism and respect. Name calling, veiled suggestions, ad hominem attacks, and unfounded accusations directed at opposing counsel, the Temporary Receiver, or the Court will not be tolerated and potentially subjects a
party to the above sanctions. The parties, the Temporary Receiver, and the Court have a lot of work to accomplish in a little amount of time. The Court will not allow harassing and unbecoming conduct to distract from the orderly administration of this lawsuit. If it continues to observe inappropriate behavior, the Court will not hesitate to schedule a show cause hearing to address the offending conduct.

I posted this as part of a comment below, but think its worth pointing out in a higher comment more clearly.

According to the State of Florida, They[sean's outpost] were originally registered as a Florida non-profit in July of 2013, but were administratively dissolved for failure to file an annual report...

http://search.sunbiz.org/Inquiry/Co...c001cf4b09/sean's%20outpost/Page1

So either they are in enough financial trouble that they can't even afford to file an annual report, or they don't want to report it...

Its not the end of the world, as there is usually a process to get back in to good standing. But its certainly not a good sign.

[–]SeansOutpost 6 points 9 hours ago

It's an administrative issue, that has already been corrected. The paperwork came due when I was on my run and was not filed in a timely manner. We have already done the process to become "in good standing" again it's just not reflected on the sunshine website.

It is quite embarrassing, but ultimately doesn't effect operations at all

[–]bobabouey 1 point 8 hours ago

Thanks for the quick reply. And I hope you note that I did describe it was something fixable, but on reflection, I shouldn't have left the only options as "don't want to, or can't afford", should have left in "messed up."

From your other post, I see you address the 501c3 issue as part of a system you don't agree with. And, I guess if you are running at a loss, you don't need the non-profit status anyway.

Still, as you grow, I hope you reconsider your aversion to 501c3 and filing Form 990s. People who follow closely may be comfortable trusting you that you don't take a salary, but as these threads evidence, you are potentially losing other contributors who would like to see that reflected in an IRS filing.

And, it increases how much people can give, as it potentially reduces their taxes.

PS - IRS filings may be easy to fake, but consequences of doing it are pretty severe.

PPS - I have donated to Sean's Outpost in the past twice, so I'm not a hater, just my two cents.

[–]SeansOutpost 5 points 8 hours ago

It's not that they are easy to fake. I just take issue with needing government permission to help people. It's also very messed up that a homeless outreach needs to spend lots of money and wait over a year to achieve 501c3 status when that same staus is simply granted, self certified, to churches.

If no one ever stands up, nothing will ever change.

People should contribute to humanitarian aid because they choose to. Not because they are forced or for a tax break.

And we are well aware that hinders us to some types of funding. Money isn't everything.

I really appreciate your donations. No hard feelings at all. Criticism is important and necessary.
