After season 10 I stopped watching this show for 2 years, kept meaning to come back to it and finally did this weekend and it just makes me laugh and laugh. How is this show still so funny after so long? I remember I just used to let it run on Netflix in the background, the humor in the show just keeps working on me. Not sure what my favorite bit in season 11 is yet but I'm partial to the Roger persona whose twin brother isn't Roger but their mother is also Roger, and the CIA's plan to get Stan into the baseball stadium.

I have no idea why but I just suddenly remembered the scene where Francine pulls out a meter to tell her whether or not it's the Olympics and that joke is so absurd I love it.

Vore is just one of the many, many things that makes Francine go wild (bottom 3 lines):

quote:On this episode of American Dad, the Smiths meet Roger's new persona, Pete Duncan. Pete is a juvenile delinquent from Texas. In order to help his fellow delinquents turn their lives around, Pete asks the Smiths to sell ads on YouTube, allowing him to earn money to send back to his family in Texas. One would assume that the money Pete earns on YouTube should be deposited into an account in Texas, but instead it is deposited into Roger's account. That sounds like Roger alright. e: fixed the bolding, and I just realized this is a Texas Pete Nep-Nep fucked around with this message at 02:50 on Mar 2, 2020 |

I forgot to keep up with this show for a couple years until last year around this time when I started up again and You Gotta Strike For Your Right became one of my favorites for the B-plot where Francine keeps making increasingly ridiculous leaps of logic and being consistently 100% correct. A friend of mine and myself saw that episode and then decided to watch American Dad in reverse order and it was a fun time, I think we started last April and finally finished up in like December.

Hayley is very intelligent just not book-smart so it's not out of character of her to be able to fail a test in a funny way when she hasn't really focused, prepared or applied herself. She tends to do much better with social intelligence or coming up with plans, like the episode where she fakes going into a coma using Jeff, then disguises herself as her own doctor all to get revenge on Stan.

The only time I can ever really remember it coming into play before was when she tricked Roger into signing her internship completion form, and even then, it was Klaus who gave her the idea. She and Klaus also conspired to convince Steve he was having a lucid dream when he was awake.

My favorite thing about that episode is how everyone seems to have intimate knowledge of how the dream realm functions except for Stan.

Francine's response to being asked what her wildest dream was was so good. I had my doubts about this episode from the description but it was a really solid one.

I have high hopes for that b plot since I feel like with this show often the less interesting a b-plot sounds the better it somehow manages to actually be.

When it comes to side characters that could have been overused but they didn't, I think they have so far used just the right amount of Stelio Kontos.

drrockso20 posted:"Scientists mystified by paper rain", man I miss the days when Family Guy was basically just a Cartoon Network show but with more cursing, violence, and just a touch of T&A rather than what it is now, American Dad also departed from that direction pretty early on, but it handled it much more gracefully One of the things I like about American Dad in particular is I don't think there's ever been a really serious episode. Like there's that episode where Stan blows up and tells the family exactly what he finds wrong with them and instead of a big dramatic speech we don't get to hear what he actually says and he makes a lot of out there gestures and we just have to use our imaginations as to what it's all about.

YeahTubaMike posted:It's shockingly bad. The only other episode that comes close to that bad is Seizures Suit Stanny. It's like American Fung was so bad that its awfulness trickled into the next episode. I had to look up this episode because I couldn't remember what it was and after reading the synopsis I still can't recall this episode at all, but I know I have to have seen it, and I don't think any other episode of the show has that effect on me, it must have been that bad.

I rewatched Seizure Suit Stanny after that exchange last night and it was okay. I can see why I would've forgotten about it since the main plot wasn't all that strong but it still got some laughs out of me. I liked Francine having a full phone conversation before realizing she wasn't talking to anybody.

This episode had a lot going on and it got many laughs out of me. So glad this show is back.
