Ah hah, and that's only the 18-49 audience, which last week was only 8,000. This is a tripling of the audience.

what would have caused that, better advertising? word-of-mouth?

Yeah LU is basically how everyone on the internet has been saying you could run a successful minor promotion for years now. It's basically removed all the parts of a wrestling company that have huge overhead for little return and I think the real final block they can put into place would be to get decent online video distribution (through places like Hulu or even just DVD on demand services) and maybe to run one every sixth month/quarterly PPV show if they can get the resources for it (or just get Vampiro/Matt to do commentary for a AAA show that shares some percentage of the same cast).

the "watch online" link on El Rey's website for LU is listed as "Coming Soon" so it's probably at least in the works.

Here's a better idea: Never hire Vince Russo in any capacity for your wrestling promotion

Speaking of Big Dave, he posted that the second season is still not official but is definitely expected to be announced any day now, which is good.

Court Bauer on MLW just teased something that is "going to change the landscape" for LU and will vastly improve their financing. May be bullshit but he works directly with Konnan and knows a lot of the people behind LU, so it seems likely.

They've hired the architect of the Attitude Era boom, Vince Russo.

Did Meltzer rate Mundo-Puma

He didn't, but this is the writeup if you were wondering.

quote:

Notes from the 6/17 show. This was the “All Night Long” match with Prince Puma defending the title against Johnny Mundo in Dario Cueto’s big invention, the All Night Long match. At least with Aztec Warfare, they tweaked the Royal Rumble, but this was an Iron Man match that took the entire TV show. They did about 39:24 of wrestling time in the match, with most falls. There was something missing in the match. The idea of Puma being down 4-1 and coming back to win 5-4 with his final pin coming with his big move with 11 seconds left should have been great on paper. But with all the stalling and delays and long set up of spots, it felt more like a stunt show building to high spots than a title match, and that isn’t good when you go so long. The match got big “Holy poo poo” style pops, but there was no intensity at all to the match or in the crowd. They were more just sitting there waiting for the big spots. They did a lot of cool stuff, but comparing this to recent long matches like Kushida vs. Kyle O’Reilly and Jay Lethal vs. Jay Briscoe and I don’t think this came close. As a concept, breaking from the usual formula and doing a long match that takes up the whole show to me is a good idea that I’d like to see people try more often. It creates more memorable shows when you break the pattern and this will be remembered more than most weekly shows. They pushed that the winner would defend the title against Drago at Ultima Lucha, but in actuality, Drago loses that shot to Mil Muertes first. Mundo went for a dive early but Puma moved, and Mundo landed on his feet, and then Puma hit him with twisting dive. Puma took the first fall in 5:37 with a front rolling cradle.

Mundo took the second fall with a reverse cradle and back bridge, while holding the ropes for leverage at 9:36.

Puma gave Mundo a huracanrana off the apron to the floor and followed with a falcon arrow on a box, that broke into a million pieces. Crowd loved that spot. But Mundo won the third fall by hitting him in the gut and the head with a crowbar at 14:21.

Mundo immediately won the next fall at 14:53 with the Moonlight drive, and another fall at 15:49 with the End of the World, so he was up 4-1.

At this point, it got silly. Mundo was drinking water and doing nothing. Mundo hit him with the plastic water bottle and did a crazy neckbreaker off the apron. Mundo brought in a ladder and hit him hard in the head with it, which isn’t smart, and then they fought in the crowd. Puma did a suplex on the floor. Puma then set up four tables. They ended up fighting around the risers. Puma was holding onto the outside of the rail in front of the seats. Mundo superkicked him and he fell, missing the tables (it was a tease for the later table spot). Mundo used the ladder to get to the stage where the band plays. So instead of trying to win more falls, Mundo was on the stage cutting a promo. Then he told the band to play which they did, and he started dancing to the music while not taking advantage of Puma who was down and out in a most falls match. Puma ended up climbing up to the band’s stage. Mundo found a 2x4 to hit Puma, but Puma ducked the shot and got it and hit Mundo with it. Mundo’s attempt to hit Puma looked real bad. Puma then hit Mundo over the head with a guitar. Then Puma tackled Mundo off the stage and they went through the four tables that were set up. Mundo was bleeding, probably hard way since they never focused on it or worked on the cut, probably because you had four sets of tables breaking in every direction. Puma then threw him in the ring and got the pin at 29:12.

Puma cut the gap to 4-3 with a GTS and spinning tombstone at 30:53.

Mundo then tried to run away. The idea is he was protecting his lead, but that’s ridiculous because if you run away, you should be counted out and lose fall after fall. The run away stall spot only makes sense if the match has less than 20 seconds to go. He had climbed up the stairs to the top of the building to be as far from the ring as possible. Did the ref count? No. Did Puma go after him? No. Instead, Alberto El Patron showed up and sucker punched Mundo. Then he beat him down and kicked him down a flight of stairs. All of this is right in front of the ref and there’s no DQ. Alberto threw him into the wall and the announcers desk, and gave him a DDT on the floor. So the babyface champion is having the benefit of another babyface interfering and beating the hell out of the heel. Puma then tied it up at 4-4 at 34:48 with a springboard 450.

Then, with the match tied and time running out, both guys stood there while Alberto cut a promo, where he challenged the winner, calling Mundo “Perro” and “We’re far from even.” When the match started back, they went to near falls, with Puma hitting a 630 senton at 39:13 to go up 5-4 and the clock then ran out with him retaining the title.
