I've never played DH/Kaisereich, but every time I see an LP of it I'm just totally bowled over by the sheer depth and number of events it has. It almost makes me want to try to pick up DH, but I think I'm still too traumatized from my first Paradox game being vanilla Victoria 1 to be able to face the Europa engine again. :v:

Yes, in Mongolia land, the election goes forward, Reed wins, MacArthur eventually coups, the war plays out, MacArthur wins, and now I am seeing democratic elections with MacArthur running as a Republican. I think the war itself is inevitable but even if MacArthur acts like a tyrant, it's possible for a restoration of democracy.

I was wondering about that, too! Obviously the CSA is the superior option, but given how totally hosed the USA seems in Kaiserreich I was wondering if something that even vaguely resembled OTL USA could emerge.

Also, I've only ever seen KR in LP-form since I don't have DH, but I assume that in KR-world all of these huge global wars aren't also paired with vicious industrialized genocide, which makes it rather less dark than our own history right off the bat.

Holy moley does Kaiserreich have a lot going on.

I'm considering getting over my horror at going back to the Europa engine (look, you'd feel the same way too if your very first Paradox game ever were vanilla Victoria 1) and giving KR a try, even though Darkest Hour seems a bit intimidating. Maybe I should just wait for an HoI IV version, though...

There's a popular mod for Darkest Hour showing an alternate timeline where the Entente won the Weltkrieg, but everyone thinks it puts too much emphasis on the one big climatic war at the end, without many smaller conflicts to give every nation something to do in the opening phases of the game.

IIRC Kaiserreich assumes the Hochseeflotte was never sunk/scuttled, so a lot of those are ancient WW1-era vintage ships. They're usually stationed out in the Pacific or Indian oceans. Add that to the AI probably building more modern BB's on top of it and you get a lot of ships.

They only have 4 carriers though, which is great news.

Which reminds me-- is how the Central Powers won WWI part of the KR backstory? Is there any particular point of divergence from real history?

I like that DH has the flag switch functionality and KR could definitely use some more switching in its events and also just when releasing puppets. I would have liked to have the original socialist flag of Mexico when I released them.

Basically I hope HoI4 and HoI4:KR has dynamic flag changes like V2 does.

I think that's been confirmed for HoI IV, although I don't have time to root around the official forums to find the post. I remember seeing a screenshot of Britain with its V2 fascist flag, too.
