Noise and ambient should be consolidated into one genre since only 10 people listen to either of them independently Also they're the same.

How come you don't care about Toupee? Their record is so.. beatiful. But maybe that's why. I guess I love "beautiful" noise. I'm not really familiar with those bands. Point me to their music. I no longer live in Chicago, so I'm out of touch.

I used to be heavily involved in the breakcore / noise scene in my city but the shark-jumping moment for me was going to a Realicide gig in 2010 and watching the opening 'band' which was three guys; one of them had a portable turntable and was just dragging the stylus back and forth across a bunch of vinyl while the second dude screamed at the audience and the third dude sat in front of them and shoved McDonald's into his mouth and spewed it back onto the ground then after twenty minutes they got into a fist fight and threw their records at the audience hard enough to actually hurt people / shatter the records when they hit the walls and floor. Then a dude tried to fight me for knocking over his beer and, even though Realicide put on a great show, when I was walking home after the gig I realised maybe the local DIY noise scene wasn't where I wanted to spend the rest of my life.

drat, I'm listening to Pinkream for the first time and I can already tell this is top-quality Merz. The best album of his I've heard is probably Green Wheels but that's just out of the ten of, like, 300 I've listened to.

The noise scene around here are all a bunch of nice guys who just like to get hosed up and make a ruckus. Double Muslim, It Is a Code, basically everything Charlie Finch is involved with, and the guys from JC that have been banging on for almost 20 years now (!!!) and still own. Airport or Telephone used to do poo poo hot live shows with just one guitar and four pedals. And when he was in Sound of the Lost they were great noise when they weren't aping Austin stoner psych.

Also Robert Inhuman just opened a new venue in Cincinnati called Cide Central. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onwQcqsEBgc I live in Milwaukee - So I am super spoiled when it comes to noise. We also have the raddest DIY venue on the planet. FYI: That Youtube channel is run by a good friend of mine, and one of the 2 noise based gods of Milwaukee. Despite the fact that I could probably hit up a noise show weekly, I haven't been to one in like a year or so. Then again, I'm working on putting together an effects chain/building a circuit, so when I get back to it I'm going to be making it.

SkaAndScreenplays posted:Which City? Melbourne, Australia I got into breakcore from meeting a few people that ran warehouse gigs and shows in art galleries and other small spaces. There was a couple of years around 2010 where internationals like Sick Boy, DJ Donna Summer, Realicide and others from the US and Europe would come and tour down the east coast of Australia as well as there being a pretty robust local scene being propped up by guys like Passenger of poo poo, DJ Rainbow Ejaculation, and Toxic Lipstick as well as more hardcore acts like Bloody Fist / Mark N, Paul Blackout, etc. There were gigs weekly and big warehouse parties monthly but it kind of fell apart as warehouses got closed down and the smaller spaces were gentrified and there's just not enough of an audience to run shows in licensed venues so as the number of gigs diminished (and a lot of the local artists started either evolving out of experimental stuff into more accessible sounds or just stopped producing / performing) I fell out of touch with the scene.

I talk to Swill and Robert online occasionally, I'll warn you if I see anything about them hitting up your lonely continent. I honestly am spoiled noise wise here in Milwaukee. This thread seems pretty dead, which is a shame because there's still a lot of good stuff coming out. Pharmakon has two albums out now, and they're both great. Her live shows are kind of hit-or-miss, though; of the three times I saw her, she had really disruptive technical problems twice which effectively torpedoed her performance. The third set was loving rad, though; she ran into the crowd, wrapped her mic cord around some guy's neck, and swung him around into the rest of the folks around him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdIcW18n_cg
