"Gentlemen," Saint says with a smile, "My name is Castus Castinius, chief submagistrate of infrastructure census data collection and retention in the Cyclopia subsector. These fine men are my assistants and local escorts, guiding us through the hive as we preform our duties. Very important data collection, you see. Now if you'll excuse us, there is a very important public works project that is behind on reporting labor projections that I must see to. I'd hate to be delayed, more paperwork you see, the who and why our collection was delayed. I do hate getting the locals in trouble, especially seeing as you're only doing your jobs. Warlock

Warlock knew he wasn't going to be able to talk his way out of this, whether or not he used the Warp. Social skills weren't necessary in the day-to-day operations of the Astra Telepathica, and there were too many to reliably control. They'd know what he'd done the moment he spoke, and then it would turn into a shootout. The whole idea of hurting them seemed a little excessive, especially considering that these men were just doing their duty to the Emperor. Nothing for it but to let the local team members vouch for them; Warlock nods in their direction and hopes they take the hint.

I'm voting B because there isn't much I can do that won't immediately piss these guys off and/or end in Perils.

(I am doing this right, right? We're supposed to answer like it was up to us, not based on what the other people have already done?)

Spike

Stretching a hideous grin from ear to ear that displays her filed teeth to best effect, Spike casually walks over to the nearest Sanctionary, getting uncomfortably close and breathing in his face. Before he has time to warn her off she puts a finger on the oath-cog pinned to his uniform, pressing down on it until it digs painfully into his skin. "Find somewhere else to be, little men. Somewhere far away." If he could tear his eyes away from her frightening maw for a second to look in her eyes, he could see something almost begging him not to listen, to just give her an excuse to paint this alley red.

Wild Man

Lasgun held easy against his chest, Wild Man grimaces at the backs of his teammates. He was still chafing at the codename they'd chosen for him, and cursing himself for not having chosen one. "Virus" would have been good, or even "Blast". But then, of course he'd be able to think of some great callsigns after the fact. He assumed his name was supposed to be ironic; he didn't think of himself as being wild, definitely not as wild as Spike. Still, it seemed to late to change it now.

Being an offworlder and unfamiliar with the customs of Desoleum, he was happy to take a back seat and let the locals sort this out by themselves.

Quixote thinks that what the others have said is plenty.

The officer moves subtly, brushing back her coat to reveal the pistol on her hip. She rests her hand over the gun, her eyes locking onto those of the Bondsman closest to her. All men are, after all, beasts, and beasts can be stared down.

Caradoc the doc

Caradoc stands back and lets the others deal with the situation. He is hardly the most intimidating individual, nor is he the smoothest of talkers, and some of the others at least have some sway and may get them in, though that may not be the most subtle of methods.

Caradoc will go B as he isn't any good at social or intimidation stuff, and just killing them seems a bit extreme at the moment.

The sanctuaries look from side to side and to each other as the group they have stopped brandishes their weapons. Normally the forces of the Sanctioned Bondsmen would meet such force with force, but today the particular individuals they've cornered seem to be almost inviting a fight from the enforcers.

The one bondsman that seems in charge motions for his men and women to stand aside and let them pass. As the Kill Team does, he speaks, "You watch yourselves, you fething hear me? You ain't worth the bullets now, but you try any shite on my watch I will end you without any thought towards proper protocol, bonded or not," he directs the last part to the two Desoleum natives.

The group finally arrives at the estate of their target. It is a small and old estate, yet appears to be in good shape. The multi-story structure hangs off the edge of the hive, with a long foot bridge patrolled by guards as the only apparent ingress or egress to the estate besides shielded Flyer garage in back. The group spends the better part of a day staking the place out. Besides some support staff like cooks and maids leaving, no one else is seen using the foot bridge, though some fliers are seen arriving and departing the estate throughout the day; all well maintained, all costly models, stinking of the elite. It is easy to read their ident plates as they come and go, but they would need to be looked up to tie them to any individuals.

This is Italics so I only need the vote on how to proceed:

A) There ain't many guards, feth it lets do it! (attack the compound)
B) There has to be another way in... (try to pry information from the help)
C) The best way to sneak in is to be invited. (Try to make connections with the family/those visiting and get invited)
D) Now we play the waiting game. (Continue to stake out the place and see if he leaves, by foot.)

Depending on what is picked skill checks will be involved, combat for A, social for B or C, etc but I'll ask for those AFTER you've made your choices.

Tough call. Normally I'd push for a frontal assault but with the fliers around the target could get away before we reach him, especially if he gets spooked by the sound of a fight. Waiting or trying to wrangle and invitation seem like they would risk blowing our already tenuous cover. Grabbing some poor sap who who works here and getting them to give us an in seems like the most reliable and deniable way forward, especially if we're prepared to silence the unfortunate witness afterwards B

Easiest way in is to be invited, after all." Left unsaid was that Saying had the sinking suspicion some of his... rougher associates would suggest something involving a sewer inflation and that did not suit him.

Going with C - not necessarily to try to get invited with those other nobles, but to try to get in under false pretenses.

It takes another day of watching the estate to isolate one of the workers. The group picks a maid, or someone they think is a maid, and follow her for half an hour after she leaves the mansion and takes the lifts down to the lower-upper hive, where she boards with other domestic servants of the noble houses. Luckily for the group the maid goes out to a local watering hole to unwind after work, where they find out though putting some drinks in her and pressing her for answers that some old escape tunnel runs inside of the bridge connecting the estate to the hive. Armed with that information, and their firearms, the group makes their way to the inside of the estate, the entrance to the tunnel easy to find once they knew where to work.

The estate is immaculately maintained, with everything all dusted, and kept orderly. The group maintains quiet for as long as they can, but are unlucky enough to stumble upon their target while he is enjoying some amasec in a large study full of old tomes. He is startled and drops his glass, but is cut off from the panic button on the wall by the Kill Squad. He begs for his life, asking who they are and what they want, offering to pay them more than whomever has hired them.

Willing to Humor the noble, the group shares they are part of an Inquisitorial Kill Team and he is to be executed for the sale of xenos artifacts. His brow furrows for a second, before he reaches under his shirt and pulls out a small amulet which is clearly of eldar make. "Do you mean these? I am not selling them! I knew they were of Xenos make, but they seem harmless! My family's shipping only provides transport! I can tell you who contracts with me, if you let me live! Surely getting to the bottom of this is more important than killing me for being a simple bulk shipper!"

What does the Team do:
A) We are Servants of the Emperor's Justice! (Kill him as is your mission. You will be given a bonus crate of gear before the first mission of the game)
B) We should find the real culprits. (Everyone gains +2 Influence to represent the support you now get from this noble for sparing his life, but Inquisitor Kane's Influence is "reduced" by 5 reflecting his disappointment in this cell and unwillingness to expend resources to support it.)

This is the Last choice. I expect everyone to post, since this reflects on if you are a loyal Kill Team member following your orders, or more questioning of your superior and his motives. I will post the full response and the OP at the same time, likely Sunday or Next Monday, but only if everyone has posted!

He glances at the others, uneasy. Obviously their duty was to kill this man, and if this noble thought that mercy in exchange for cooperation was ever anything but temporary, he was a fool as well as a heretic...but the idea of leaving some greater corruption intact gnawed at Warlock's soul. The lies of the Enemy were endless and devious, but could he really call himself pure if he willingly ignored this? This noble was a puppet; wasn't there a possibility that the killteam was the same?

But of course, there was no stopping it now. He could feel the hostility radiating off the majority of the team. Hopefully the Inquisitor was aware of the greater conspiracy and had better, more experienced teams already in action. Hopefully the Inquisitor was beyond reproach. Hopefully this was the right decision.

Still, Warlock wasn't going to be one to pull the trigger.

Caradoc pulls aside one of the more convincing members of the Kill Team and quietly whispers to them, "perhaps you can at least make him think we are going to take him up on his idea? Try to get what information you can. Then when we have wrung him dry of his information, assuming he isn't lying to try and save his skin, we can deal with him as appropriate."

Caradoc will go A but it would probably be good if we made the noble think we were going B just long enough to get any information he might have. Before dealing with him as the heretic he appears to be.

The noble is quickly executed with a shot to the head, the blood quickly mixing with the tears streaming down his face as he begged for mercy. Exfiltration was accomplished through the same way as their entry, and each member of the kill team go to head for home. For some of the kill team that was a short flight to another hive on Desoleum, for others it was a journey to nameless worlds or warzones throughout the sector.

Months go by without communication from Inquisitor Kane, but each of you in due time receive another package from "Westin and Sons Devotional Materials" and begin to embark on your next assignment.

Okay, first thing; work has me in Vegas Tuesday-Friday, so I won't be posting next week.

I also want to draw everyone's attention to the social interactions section of the rule book starting on page 277, since it adds things that at least I don't recall being in other systems. First is the Disposition mechanic. NPCs you encounter begin with a disposition score usually between 40-60. When asking something of an NPC, I as the GM test their disposition, which remains hidden, to see if the NPC agrees. As such a lucky roll of the dice might get you what you want out of an NPC without having to do a Charm, deceive, command or intimidate test right off the bat, as was standard in the other systems.

Where those tests come in is trying to either alter an NPC's disposition or to force them to believe something. This is where NPC personalities come into play. An intimidate test will still force an NPC to do what you want, but some NPCs are easier to intimidate than others, and a failed intimidate may lower their disposition, potentially making interactions with them harder later. Note if an NPC's disposition reaches zero they usually will react in a hostile matter or refuse to talk to them in the future, so it does not help to keep throwing the same failed test at them hoping it succeeds.

Now I will always try to work in cues as to what type of personality an NPC has. Also know you can make a scrutiny test, and if you succeed I will tell you the type of personality, letting you know which tests work best against them.

Any questions on that stuff post them.
