Trump is going for the economy/nationalist angle, Cruz is going for the culture-war, but they're both after the I HATE THIS WORLD AS IT EXISTS NOW AND WILL BECOME BLARGH vote. Kasich would be an uber-conservative in 1992, but he's a milquetoast moderate in this race so

It's a dead party. Gingrich's revolution in the mid-90s at least had a legislative agenda that voters could read and either agree or disagree with. The GOP right now is a toddler in the canned food aisle running up and down knocking poo poo off the shelves. There's no agenda, no plan, no coherent governing philosophy, just LET'S gently caress UP EVERYTHING LOL TANTRUM TIME.

They're going to be stuck with Trump (the white trash id) or Cruz (the American Taliban) and they're going to lose by, like, a lot. Because as abhorrent as Hillary Clinton is, she's a far sight better than either of these two assholes. Reince Priebus is going to just shoot up an historic amount of heroin and drink a handle of Evan Williams to avoid being connected with this shitshow.

Then the fun starts. Was the GOP candidate too conservative, or not conservative enough? Spoiler alert, they'll say he wasn't conservative enough (regardless if it's Trump or Cruz)

Someone will try to launch a third party of the Coal Belt, Libertarians in the Rockies region, and Western States social liberals that will fail massively because  at any third party overcoming first-past-the-post voting.

This is beautiful, but there's no chance the GOP will fracture over this shitshow. We'll just see more "independents" who uniformly vote Republican.

‘Guys with big hands’: Top GOP ad man launches campaign to ‘unsell’ Trump

SAN FRANCISCO —After decades of selling leading GOP candidates, political ad guru Bob Gardner — who has created TV campaign spots for Dick Cheney, Gerald Ford, Mitt Romney, George H.W. Bush, and Arnold Schwarzenegger — is drawing the line at helping Donald Trump.

The San Francisco-based star adman, a loyal Republican, says he’s launched a provocative online campaign to “unsell” the GOP candidate’s nomination to Republican voters. Gardner's new “Why Trump” ad campaign, now up on YouTube, aims to reach GOP voters with an argument that Trump is damaging to the party and the country.
One 30-second spot in the campaign, which Gardner provided to POLITICO this week, shows a lithe young woman doing yoga and talking straight to the camera.

“I like macho guys — take-charge, competent guys — guys with big hands. Real men,’’ she says. “But real men don’t go around dissing Muslims and Mexicans. ... They’re not bullies. And real men don’t talk about their size. … Guys like Donald Trump who brag about how big they are? You can’t be president, Donny boy. You just don’t measure up.”

This is exactly why early head to head polls showing Sanders doing better than Clinton vs Trump are meaningless. The general election would be one constant drone of "SOCIALIST COMRADE SANDERS FOR FOOD LINES 2016" resulting in an embarrassing loss for the Democrats, and the GOP can't help but point out how shameful it was even this close.

Because it decides the balance of the court.

Meanwhile, the Cruz assholes can nail whatever lovely planks they want onto an irrelevant platform. Trump will be Trump. He'll say whatever the gently caress he wants. And he knows he's got a captive audience. In the end, Trump has made this election all about energy and narrative, because he knows how to read this crowd we call the American electorate. gently caress what you know about American elections: you'd better start watching reality TV if you want any predictive ability to talk about how this race is going to play out.

Remember: policy doesn't matter. polls don't matter. favorability doesn't matter. gaffes don't matter. flipflopping doesn't matter. being an rear end in a top hat doesn't matter. You can make a fair case that fear and terror matter, and Trump is hammering that button far more dramatically and effectively than the other side.

but in the end, remember, nothing matters.

With that final portion of voters acknowledging Clinton will be the nominee, I think we're going to see a nice bounce for Clinton before the conventions. After the conventions, I expect the undecideds to drop off sharply, but still remain higher than the last 5 elections.

Politico posted:

Trump shifts position on Libya
By KYLE CHENEY 06/05/16 08:57 AM EDT

Donald Trump reversed himself again on Libya on Sunday, saying in an interview that he would have authorized a “surgical” strike to take out Muammar Qadhafi, after months of telling voters the country would have been better off if the dictator were still alive.

“I didn't mind surgical. And I said surgical. You do a surgical shot and you take him out,” Trump said in an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

It’s his latest reversal on a crucial element of the Obama foreign policy. Trump has spent most of the 2016 campaign contending that a bungled Obama intervention in Libya is proof that the United States should’ve stayed out altogether.

"I never discussed that subject. I was in favor of Libya?” Trump said at a Texas debate in February. “We would be so much better off if Qadhafi would be in charge right now."

That statement itself was a reversal from 2011, when Trump in a video blog argued that Qadhafi was slaughtering his citizens and that the United States should, “on a humanitarian basis, immediately go into Libya, knock this guy out very quickly, very surgically, very effectively, and save the lives." (NATO intervened on behalf of Qadhafi's foes, and anti-Qadhafi forces captured and killed him in October 2011.)

Pressed Sunday by John Dickerson about the shifts, Trump said, “I was for something, but I wasn't for what we have right now,” Trump said. He added, “I wasn't for what happened. Look at the way — I mean look at with Benghazi and all of the problems that we've had. It was handled horribly. … I was never for strong intervention. I could have seen surgical where you take out Qadhafi and his group.”
