I respect the guy who made Five Night at Freddy's for two reasons... 1) He didn't make a loving zombie game or use some other done to death theme like most lazy poo poo devolopers. The concept of being a night security guard trying to fend of haunted/possessed animatronics is at least something fresh. 2) Apparently a critic dissed one his previous games saying that the poor animations made characters look like animatronics. Talk about making lemons into lemonade.

Five Nights at Freddy's isn't high art or anything, but lovely indie developers put out stuff much worse for higher prices all the time so it seems silly to pick on this guy.

The first game definitely has the issue of being too simple. Once you figure out how the animatronics move the optimal tactic quickly becomes apparent. Up until that point the game is quite fun and you're just trying to solve the puzzle without being eaten. The game's got a good sense of humour and manages to pull off being creepy and funny at the same time. I got it for about $2.50 not knowing at all what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. I think the gameplay is much better in the sequel. There is a lot more that you have to keep track of and you actually have to be quite fast. The game mixes things up from night to night and can be pretty difficult. The atmosphere is similar to the first game, but the dev has definitely put some extra work in. There's still that corporate satire and the phone guy's cheesy messages but there's also more on the horror side of things. There are more animatronics and they're all creepy and funny in their own way. There are also strange death screens and "dream" sequences. I haven't beaten the game yet but I'm enjoying it.

I had a dream about this game last night. I was working at some place, and I had some people with me. We had to move a bunch of big cylinder things from one room into another. And then paint them white. But like, I was terrified the whole time and had to do it really fast or... I don't even know what would happen. Nothing happened. I was just very scared. I think that this dream was probably better than the game, which I have not played.
