Okay, we get it. Klonoa was the most influential game of the last 20 years. Basically every game since 1997 has had Klonoa elements. Jumping, collecting, the iconic 2.5D design, even borrowing wholesale from its plot. But some of these games only borrow one or two things from Klonoa, where true "klonoalikes" are basically just ROM-hacks -- which explains why they're always the best-selling games of the year, since nobody can get enough Klonoa.

I love Klonoa as much as anyone. More, even. That's why I'm sick of seeing every game that comes out termed a "klonoalike." Not every side-scrolling item-collecting game with a protagonist that shoots magical rings of energy is a klonoalike. Okay? We're all gamers, we all love and grew up with Klonoa, but this has to stop.

And no, Threads of Fate VIII is not a klonoalike. It's an action-rpg with some Klonoa elements. ToF IV is the only one that can be called a klonoalike.

Furthermore, no. Not every game where you push blocks and lay traps for your enemies is a "bomberlolo." I don't care how many crates there are in Metal Gear Solid, it's not a bomberlolo game.

Okay, sure, Zelda's a pretty classic example. But come on. Deus Ex? Braid? Longest Journey? Just borrowing game mechanics from Adventures of Lolo and putting bombs in a game doesn't make it a bomberlolo game.

The Gexesque genre is one with a long, proud tradition and I will not stand by while you besmirch it with this fake-rear end name.

Had it been released a few years earlier it might have, but by the time Lunatea's Veil came out, most of the world had already played and copied Door to Phantomile. It was just another klonoalike in a world where the top 5 games on most reviewers' lists had been klonoalikes for four years. I'd still rate it one of my favorite games, but I get why it's underappreciated.

Tales of Symphonia also had Threads of Fate, Thousand Arms, Eternal Eyes, and Vigilante 8 costumes. I think they just had good taste.
