I've been sitting here for 5 mins trying to think of a joke to make but I just realised the animators of Mass Effect already did it for me

The Final DLC has been announced:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUQKGFMfXx0
If you only get one DLC for Inquisition, this is the one to get. While it's primarily post-game DLC, it adds challenges and items to content throughout the game.

Second DLC: THE DESCENT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_L4qyvxAFI
Good fun if you like dungeon crawling or thought the Deep Roads were the highlight of Origins. Some neat lore is buried here too. Heh. Buried. Get it?

First DLC Out of Nowhere!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fElIdKZX6p0
This adds a new region that is designed for post game exploring but can be accessed as soon as you start unlocking new regions on the War Table. Allows access to some Tier 4 materials and schematics.

First Rule of Inquisition: Get out of the Hinterlands. 90% of that poo poo is optional--as soon as you talk to Corporal Vale and get 4 power (close a rift, establish some camps, maybe talk to the horsemaster if you feel like it, done) LEAVE THE HINTERLANDS! Don't worry about your level being a limit--go explore! You can always come back if you have a completionist itch, but too many people seem to let the Hinterlands overwhelm them and burn out.

:siren:May Patch notes --Noted improvements: Legacy Thrones (if your Origin account has DA:O or DA2, you get the Legacy Ferelden throne or the Legacy Kirkwall throne). Sheathe and unsheathe at will! Beard fixes! Some rare quest cock-ups have been un-cocked.
March Patch Notes -- Notable changes: Mouselook added, some quests tweaked; you can collect all of The Fall mosaic pieces legitimately now.
December Patch Notes
You don't import a save from Dragon Age Origins or Dragon Age 2! Use the Keep!

DRAGON AGE: INQUISTION
Release Dates: (NA) November 18, (AU) November 20, (EU) November 21, (JP) November 27
Official Website
Available for PC, 360, PS3, Xbox One and PS4.

PC Specs:

AMD Catalsyt driver update
Nvidia driver update: some goons have experienced some hang-ups at the log-in screen after this update, though, so you may need to roll back if that happens to you.

The third major release in the Dragon Age franchise, Dragon Age Inquistion is what Bioware calls “the Dragon Age we always wanted to make.” After starting things off with the critically acclaimed Dragon Age: Origins and following it (perhaps a bit too quickly) with the :airquote:RPG of the Decade:airquote: Dragon Age 2, Bioware has gone back to Thedas to wrap up some loose ends and continue the story of the Dragon Age. To be clear, this is not the third game in a trilogy, but a continuation of the series.

Dragon Age Inquisition sees a lot of returning features and franchise firsts.

  • Races are back! You don't have to play a human to play Inquisition. In fact, Qunari have been added as a fourth playable race, joining the Human, Dwarf and Elf races from Origins.
  • Jumping! You have a jump button now! Do the Mario!
  • Open world exploration! Good thing you have that jump button!
  • :worship:The Tactical Camera! This returns from Origins as well, with the added benefit that the camera can be detached from the party and swung or moved around independently, allowing you to scout and study enemies in greater detail.
  • Multiplayer! This is a biggie, so check out the second post.
  • Base customization! Making a return from the Awakening expansion and receiving a major upgrade, you will have access to a fortress called Skyhold that you can customize with materials you collect in the open world. Additionally, there will be smaller fortresses that you can capture and upgrade to suit your needs and the growth of your organization.
  • Healing is out! Bioware has removed (almost) all of your standard healing spells from the game, and potions are much more limited (you need an upgrade to carry more than 8 for the whole party at a time). The reasoning for this is to limit the ability of potions and healing spells to make health pools essentially infinite, allowing for tighter encounter design. Instead of face tanking, you are encouraged to use active abilities like Barrier, Guard and combat rolls to not get hurt in the first place.
  • Crafting! Crafting in Dragon Age Origins was limited to making one-time use items like potions or traps, and was essentially absent from DA2 altogether. Now you can craft weapons, armor, potions, grenades, gardens, tents, towers, thrones and any number of things. And you can rename weapons and armor, too.
  • Companion Armor Changes! One of the more controversial design choices in DA2 was to give every companion an “iconic” look and remove the option for them to use the armor found in the game. Bioware has tried to find a compromise by allowing you to equip any armor to a companion, but the armor will now change slightly to suit the character. Varric's chest hair needs to breathe, you see.

In the wake of the disaster in Kirkwall (and following some events in the novel Asunder which were from all accounts much more reasonable than anything having to do with Anders or Knight-Commander Meredith), the mages and templars are in an all-out war. Desperate to see an end to the strife and to bring order back to Thedas, the Divine, head of the Chantry, convenes a summit. It is to this summit that your player character has been sent. But then something terrible and calamitous happens and a great explosion kills everyone in the conclave but you, and you suddenly are infused with a strange “mark” in your left hand. This mark allows you to close demon-spawning rifts that are connected to the original explosion: the Breach. Because this special power makes you invaluable to saving the world, you are placed at the head of the newly formed Inquisition to stop this disaster before it can consume all of Thedas!

The Keep
Before you start your grand adventure with the Inquisitor, you may want to import your decisions from the previous two games. But how do you do that when you played the first game on the 360 and just bought the sequel on the Xbox One?

The answer is the Keep. Enter your Origin ID and it will look at the records from your old games and import data about your old playthroughs and characters. Eventually, you will come face to face with the Tapestry.

It's in the Tapestry that you'll set the World State you want to import into Dragon Age Inquisition. Did the Warden make the Ultimate Sacrifice, or walk through the Eluvian with Morrigan? Did Hawke stab Anders or turn Isabela over to the Arishok? Make your choices and remember to :siren:Export to Dragon Age Inquistion:siren:. Then, when you are at the main menu in Inquisition, connect your profile and the World State you made will be automatically imported during a New Game. You don't need to stay connected after that. Want to start a different game with a different world state? You can make up to ten at a time. Just remember to export the one you want before you start your new game.

Didn't play the previous games or don't remember what you did or what some of the decisions mean (who the gently caress is Deygan)? This video might help:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv6A-CHqkq8

The Inquisitor
As the Inquisitor, you will be able to pick any gender and one of four races. Also, you can pick one of two voices for your gender. Your gender at initial character creation is randomized—neither male or female is the default pick—but you can always make your own choice. Each race has its own special perk and roleplay opportunities:

Humans are the “safe” option, so to speak, because culturally they dominate Thedas. As a human inquisitor, you were born in the Free Marches (of Kirkwall infamy) as a noble of the Trevelyan family in Ostwick. Your family has always had close ties to the Chantry and the Circle, so you became part of the delegation to the summit. Humans receive an extra ability point at character creation.

A dwarven inquisitor is a “surface” dwarf, with no caste or connection to life in Orzammar. Instead, you are a member of the Carta, an infamous criminal syndicate that (among other unsavory things) smuggles lyrium, a material mages need for channeling spells and which templars are often addicted to. Obviously it's important for business to know how things will play out at the summit, so you got roped in to spy on things. Dwarves have a 25% bonus to magic defense.

Elves have long been persecuted in Thedas. Those that live in cities are kept in racially segregated ghettos, and those that live free are obliged to stay on the move. You are one of the latter, a Dalish, either a hunter or, if a mage, a First, the apprentice of the clan's Keeper. Your Keeper believes something is going to happen at the summit that will affect everyone in Thedas, even the elves, and so you have been sent to spy on the summit to make sure the clan is forewarned about events. Elves receive a 25% bonus to ranged defense, and Dalish heritage in particular makes them very politically inconvenient for the Chantry.

Qunari are famous for their strict dedication to the religious philosophy of the Qun, but not all qunari fit the mold. You have never lived in Qunari lands and would be called Tal-Vashoth by any practicing qunari for not adhering to the Qun. As part of a mercenary company, you have been hired as muscle to help keep the peace between templars and mages that would be attending the summit. Qunari receive a +10% bonus to melee defense, and being giants with horns descended from a conquering empire with an inscrutable philosophy, they tend to freak people out.

Classes
The Big Three classes return, and each in turn has three specializations. You may pick one specialization, which can be unlocked through a quest that opens up at a certain point in the game. Specializations are not just for show this time, as they actually have story content tied to them. If you make your character a Templar, there may be some mages who feel strongly about that! Please note that the use of Qunari for these pictures is in no way intended as discrimination against lesser races.

Mage: Blessed with the power of magic and cursed with the threat of demonic possession for having it, they can use the powers of Winter, Inferno, Spirit and Storm schools to combat their foes, and may choose to specialize as a Rift Mage, a Necromancer or a Knight Enchanter.
Rift Mages are new, but they have old favorites in their repertoire, like Stone Fist and Pull of the Abyss. They weaken and trap targets and can blanket the battlefield in a meteor swarm through Firestorm.
Necromancer is the "dark" path this time around, replacing the frankly inappropriate Blood Mage from the previous two games. They use fear effects and spirit damage to harry their targets and have access to Haste.
Knight Enchanter is this game's answer to the Arcane Warrior. Instead of wearing heavy armor, they have a built in light saber, slow effects, intangiblity and access to Resurgence, an AoE full heal.

Warrior: Front line fighters, warriors can soak up more punishment than other classes with exclusive access to Guard, a form of temporary health only they can generate. They have access to the Weapon and Shield, Two-handed, Battlemaster and Vanguard skills as well as the Reaver, Templar and Champion specializations.
Reaver returns as the berserker specialization, doing self harm to increase its damage output and stealing health from targets. They can use Rampage to increase their attack speed and steal life with every hit.
Templar (not a very complete ability list at this point, sorry) is the anti-magic specialization for warriors. They can shut down hostile magic or resist a portion of elemental damage, and use Rally to boost the party and give them Guard, something non-warriors can't normally get.
Champion is all about area denial and being tough. They can block enemy movement through choke points, become temporarily immune to damage and use Counterstrike to taunt everything into attacking them, automatically countering every melee attack.

Rogue: Whether it's striking from the shadows or from a distance, rogues are all about hitting hard and not getting hit back. They can use the Double Daggers, Archery, Subterfuge and Sabotage skill trees and specialize as Tempests, Assassins or Artificers.
Assassins make their returns as a stealth and burst damage specialization. They can auto-stealth after killing a target and deal extra damage to wounded targets while ignoring a portion of armor, and can use Cloak of Shadows to stealth the whole party.
Tempest is specialized around using alchemical potions to self-buff. They can give themselves a haste effect or set themselves on fire to knock back enemies. They can use Thousand Cuts to do as much as 11400% their base damage to a target.
Artificers are about traps. They can lock down targets, pull them away from the crowd, use mines, and perhaps benefit from teamwork more than other rogue specs. They can use Hail of Arrows to duplicate their Archery effects (so you really want to spec these guys with Archery).

Still not sure what all specialization you want? Maybe watching this will give you an idea.

Companions
Since the beginning, a major facet of the Dragon Age franchise has been the menagerie of characters you collect on your journey. They are often the best (and worst) parts of series. Dragon Age Inquisition gives you nine companions, one for each specialization, who will fight at your side, and maybe give you a tumble if you play your cards right. It's okay; we won't tell anyone about your whirlwind romance with a video game character.

Cassandra: A Seeker, Cassandra is essentially a prototype Templar, as she utilizes the specialization without any of the traditional downsides like lyrium addiction. She appeared in Dragon Age 2 where she was interrogating Varric about the events in Kirkwall, and is essentially the one who places you in charge of the Inquisition. She's only interested in men.

Varric: The fan favorite and perhaps the only good thing to come out of Dragon Age 2, Varric still won't sleep with you. Sorry. He exclusively uses his crossbow Bianca when he wants to fight at range, but you can make him use daggers if you like. Eventually he specializes as an Artificer, using traps and back-up plans to foil his pursuers.

Solas: An apostate mage, Solas has spent his life meditating on the Fade, and pursues the Rift Mage specialization. He's only interested in elven women. Clearly this makes him a super racist.

Vivienne: An Orlesian mage closely connected to Empress Celene and the Circle, Vivienne has strong political opinions and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. She uses the Knight Enchanter specialization. She's got no time for love, though.

Iron Bull: A qunari mercenary, or is there more to him? Iron Bull is an avowed pan-sexual and is open to just about anything, romance or otherwise. Specializes as a Reaver.

Blackwall: A Grey Warden, Blackwall was among the Orlesian Wardens who were stopped at the border by Loghain's forces during the last Blight. Now he's joined the Inquisition and brings with him the Champion specialization in case you needed an absolutely unstoppable tank to go with his unrivaled beard. He's interested in all kinds of women.

Cole: Is he the ghost of a dead boy or a demon that thinks he's human? Cole doesn't know for sure, but as an Assassin he's no stranger to killing. Basically has the mind of a child, so no, you can't gently caress the ghost. Disappointed the thread title lied to you? TRAP SPRUNG!

Dorian: a Necromancer from Tevinter (Basically Moustache-Twirling-Evil the Country), Dorian finds himself at odds with the politics of his homeland (don't let the facial hair fool you) and drawn to the Inquisition when they cross paths with people from his past. Interested exclusively in men.

Sera: As a member of the Friends of Red Jenny—a secret organization going back to the first game—Sera is “unpredictable” if you're diplomatic or “tumblr random” if you're not. She's a Tempest and likes to steal underwear. Likes girls.

Advisers and the War Table

New to Inquisition is the War Table, and with it Advisers. When you wish to progress the story or unlock objectives for exploration, you use the War Table and choose an Adviser who represents a particular approach to solving problems: Secrets, Forces or Connections. They will then carry out your will, sometimes completing activities off camera using a real-time cooldown, sometimes sending agents to perform activities like repairing bridges or digging up intelligence, or sometimes actually becoming involved in missions themselves. Some of them may even like-like you :kimchi:

Leliana: Returning from Dragon Age Origins (even if you killed her, because Bioware forgot you could do that) and her cameo at the end of Dragon Age 2, Leliana has become the Left Hand of the Divine; the master of secrets in Val Royeaux is now working her craft as the spymaster for the Inquisition. Because you could romance her in DA:O, she's not available for such shenanigans this time. She is in charge of Secrets, duh.

Josephine: Josephine is a friend of Leliana's who is acting as the chief diplomat for the Inquisition. She is part of a powerful merchant family out of Antiva, which helps her with Connections. Likes men and women equally, so she sort of fills in for Leliana now that she's unavailable. Hopefully she doesn't burst into song, though.

Cullen: A fan girl favorite from Dragon Age Origins, Cullen has been promoted to a major character instead of becoming turbo-Hitler in the Origins epilogue. Also, he got rid of the ramen-hair. He still has an edge to his character, though, which is one reason he represents Forces. He's only interested in human and elven women. Sorry, gay dwarf dudes!

Crafting

In exploring the world, you can harvest materials from enemies and the environment and then use them to craft a variety of objects. You can expand your Skyhold base with towers and flags or gardens, but a lot of your crafting will probably be focused on making weapons and armor.

Crafting gear is done by selecting a schematic and a base material and then placing other materials into “sockets.” Each material has different effects depending on what it is used for: A material might increase Cunning in the utility slot but increase ranged defense in the defense slot, for example.

Through the crafting system, you can also make armor that is not normally available for your class. Want to play an rogue in plate mail or put your warrior in a mage-only cowboy hat? Craft it! An option to tint your clothing whatever color you like has been patched into the game; you'll find it in your base with the crafting stations.

Influence and Power
As you complete activities in Dragon Age Inquisition, you earn gold and experience, but the Inquisition itself also improves by acquiring Power and Influence. Influence acts as experience to level up the inquisition and acquire Perks, and then Power is spent to accomplish activities and actually open new areas.

Inquisition Perks are very important, especially Cullen's Forces perks that increase your potion limit and unlock/upgrade your Focus meter, which powers special “limit break” style skills tied to your specializations. Other perks can expand the amount of elixirs you bring into combat, improve the quality of your equipment, or unlock dialogue options. Pick your perks carefully, though, because there are about thirty and you can expect to have about ten or so by end-game.

Reviews, or “Is it a Good Game or Not?”
It's games journalism; almost everyone gave the game a great score. Critiques focused on things like not being able to queue multiple actions (something that has never been in the series) to side quest design being too much like Skyrim to the critical plot path being abrupt or poorly explained. Also, not everyone likes every character: our own ImpAtom did a review and was pretty fond of Iron Bull but kind of wish he'd skipped Sera. Were they right? We'll save this spot for reviews the thread considers particularly insightful or useful to people who don't want to wade through goon feedback before making a decision. Just point them out to me and I'll link them here.

Goon Criticisms So Far: These complaints have come up in several posts: Tactical Camera doesn't zoom out enough and is awkward in anything but flat terrain; holding the button to attack is frustrating; changes to the Tactics AI are bad--you can't make in-depth if-then statements about when powers are used on who in what conditions; instead you set preferences (turning powers on and off, etc) and the AI does what it will within those parameters. Several people who have loudly complained about these things have still come back to say the game is fun, so how much these impact your enjoyment may vary.

:siren:Known Bugs and Issues:siren:
  • Experiencing crashes?: A link to some possible fixes. Easiest fix is to just set the game to borderless windowed mode--that stops most crashes.
  • Oh god why is my hair so shiny!? Set meshes to High or better.
  • I reloaded a save after a Judgment and now it takes forever to load and then the judgment won't play: Reload your save from before the judgment and then leave the throneroom. Or load a save from before you entered the throne room.
  • Sound bug info: If you're having a problem with music not playing or banter not triggering, check this master post on the bioware forums and you might find a fix. Another trick that might fix the "banter bug" and get conversations to trigger more frequently.
  • Why did my voice change? -- If you picked a voice other than the default and then customized a certain returning character, your voice may switch to the default for your race. This is supposed to be fixed as of Dec 9th.
  • Why does Cullen think I'm a woman!? At character creation, your gender is randomized. Sometimes the flags don't land right. If you go with the randomized gender, sometimes the game will think you're a man and sometimes a woman. Cycle the genders at least once to get a guarantee. Or roll with it!
  • Game locking up? Just let it sit. It'll catch up eventually.
  • WHY AM I SO OLD!? The Dec 9 patch hosed some poo poo up; Check this post for a workaround.
  • Stuttering/Freezing? This link may have a fix for you. One fix that helped a lot of people is to add "“-GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60+” to the shortcut to remove the 30 FPS limit, but be advised that this can sometimes cause you to spawn out of bounds during the tutorial. :iiam:
  • Another fix for Stuttering/Fixing: This page details a way to reduce stuttering and the CPU usage problems the game can have.
  • Crashing in cutscenes: fellow poster iGestalt feels your pain and may have found a solution.

Guides, FAQs, Character Builds, Strategies, Recommendations, Walkthroughs, Etc.
In case you have a particular good Knight Enchanter set up, have a recommendation for beating a boss that's more complicated than “reduce the difficulty,” or have an insightful summary of previous games, links to your posts will go here:
  • Set ranged characters to follow themselves themselves and they won't constantly run into melee and be smarter about running into dragon's breath.
  • Major Decisions Approval: Some quest outcomes change everyone's approval regardless of whether or not they're in the party. These are photos of the official guide book's tables. Spoiler territory, obviously. Notable typo: Solas does not approve of allying with Templars. Decision 1A is exclusive from decision 1B, but 2A can be done before or after decision 2B. Afterwards, you may have the opportunity to get decision 3 on your way to decision 4.
  • Graphics Card/Processor/RAM Recommendations: This post has a quick reference card pointing out what you should be able to play the game at based on your PC components.
  • How to VPN the game: Want to get it a little early? Here's a guide to using VPN.
  • I'm level X, where should I go?: Check this list for some recommended levels for each zone; minor spoilers.
  • How Detonators Work: a quick guide to set ups and detonators. Use combos and your DPS will skyrocket. Cross class combos get a better bonus. Some specializations (like Templar, which has access to a Stun and an Eldritch Detonator) can make their own cross-class combos.
  • Where are my dragons!?: pictures and sliders for making Daenerys Targaryen if you're a Game of Thrones fan.
  • Agents: Agents count towards unlocking perks, so use this table to find enough to unlock what you want so you don't waste perk points.
  • A List of Quarries and Logging Stands: For when you want to upgrade your home but would rather not traipse blindly for hours looking for the blighted things. Here's another. Here is the earliest quarry you can unlock.
  • Inferno Enchanter, Rift Mage and Poison Artificer build suggestions.
  • More Enchanter suggestions.
  • Dragon Hunting? Links to what dragons drop what loot and where to find them.
  • How do I craft armors without class requirements? You need to use one of three tier-3 materials as the base component of the armor: Silverite (which is found in Emprise du Lion) for Heavy armors, Snoufleur (which is found on a harmless critter in Emprise du Lion and occasionally in western Exalted Plains) for Medium armors, and Dales Loden Wool (which is found on Red Templars, most often in, you guessed it, Emprise du Lion) for Light armors. Helmets are class-less by default. You can unlock Emprise Du Lion shortly after getting to Skyhold, but it's dicey to explore until you're mid-teens.
  • Where are the Tier 3 Schematics? The buyable armor schematics are found in the Hissing Waste, at a store hidden in a rocky valley full of spiders; the shopkeeper is a mabari. The buyable weapons schematics are in Emprise du Lion after you capture the keep.
  • Is there another way to get early Tier 3 schematics? Uberjumper found a chest that drops them. Loot the chest, making sure to leave something in it, then leave the map and return to the chest. Similarly, if you clear a track of the Forbidden Temple (which can be done very early), you can spawn tier 3 schematics in the last room of each track.
  • Farmable schematics: If you find a certain letter near a campsite in Emprise du Lion, you can unlock the Cradle of Sulevin. All the chests in this dungeon have a unusually high chance to drop schematics. If you want to farm them, you have to make sure you always leave at least one item in a chest, then leave the zone--any chest that has at least one item in it will repopulate its contents when you reload the area, giving you a shot at more schematics.
  • Halla Statues: In a particular story quest, you find halla statues that open doors. There are not enough to open every door, most of the loot is stuff you can find or buy elsewhere, and you need to save at least 5 for a very important door in the royal wing--listen for a cry for help. Don't waste them.
  • Masterworking: Normally masterwork success chances are seeded into the save game to prevent save-scumming. This post has a way of (kinda-sorta) getting around that.
  • War Table Operations: The War Table often has multipart objectives and picking different advisers to do things has different results. Here is a table that may help you get the results you want; or don't, because sometimes the wrong choices are funny.
  • Recommended Perk Investment: You only get so many perks in normal gameplay--while you can probably get everything you care to in completionist run, this may help you plan your investments over a quicker playthrough.
  • Way of the Artificer: Need help finding the mats for this specialization? Here's a quick guide.
  • Forgotten Oasis Temple: Those shards you keep finding access a temple, with three tracks to finish before the last door opens. Opening all the doors takes every shard in the game, but you can finish one track all the way well before finishing "Act 1." Prioritize the center ice path, because it has a power amulet for the main character. Also, if you use the "take all but one item, reload" method of cheesing chests, you can get some good schematics and equipment long before you're supposed to even before you finish a whole path.
  • Resource Gathering: this googledoc will help you know what resource gathering missions will return what things.
  • The Winter Palace driving you mad? this post has some advice for you.
  • What armor is right for me: Looking for just the right schematic? These are the basic tier 3 models to help you know what to look for.
  • What do materials look like: Looking for the perfect color scheme? Here are links to a tumblr with samples of all the material appearances in game.
  • Infinite Amulets of Power: Each character gets amulets of power, which gives you a free ability point, and some are found in places that let them respawn. For the Inquisitor, once you reach Crestwood and close the rift in the lake, you can unlock a house in the village with a chest (sometimes the chest is invisible) that has an amulet. Cole stands next to his chest at the top of the tavern in Skyhold; it may not be clickable until you have a certain amount of approval from him. Dorian has a chest in the Still Ruins of the Western Approach behind a locked door on the left of the first chamber. Varric's can be found in Valammar, an optional dungeon in the Hinterlands; after you access the chamber unlocked by two cogs and kill the darkspawn inside, you reenter the chamber from its exit and his amulet will spawn in the first container on the right. Vivienne's chest can be found in the vault of the Villa Maurel in the Emerald Graves. Solas's can also be found in the Emerald Graves from a treasure map cache; take the power amulet and leave the frost rune and you can farm it. Patch may have killed it; will leave here for the unpatched folks or something.
  • Choosing the New Divine: Three characters are candidates for becoming Pope. This thread claims to have dug through the game and says it works like approval: Do X on Story Quest Y, Candidate Z gets +10 to Papacy. Check the thread for the details.
  • Looking for Mage Specialization Materials? Tamir Lenk is happy to help.
  • Sera romance not advancing? twistedmentat knows a solution.

Mods
Dragon Age Inquisition is based on the latest Frostbite engine, which is notoriously difficult to mod. The workaround is to make a custom patch, so only one mod can be supported at a time and will likely break once a new patch comes out. Cheatengine, however, more or less works fine. Of course, the enterprising folks at the Nexus are hard at work making custom pajamas and birthday suits.

DLC
Jaws of Hakkon is the first proper DLC release. It focuses on the Avvar and the Inquistion's hunt for the remains of the last Inquisitor. It can be played any time after you reach Skyhold, but starts at level 20 and adds new tricks to some of the old enemy types--bring cold protection. Includes tier 4 schematics and materials.

Black Emporium is a free DLC that brings the DA2 pre-order DLC of the same name to Inquisition. You can change your face and buy new schematics, crafting materials and accessories. Nothing truly new--even the schematics are of things already in the game--but they are either of things you had to get really lucky to get normally before or allow you to craft custom versions of rare purple loot.

Shortly after Jaws of Hakkon came out, Spoils of the Avvar came out. It's a five dollar pack of armors, mounts and furniture that already appeared in Jaws of Hakkon, but now you can have them for yourself. Honestly comes across as fan-made mod quality, but you pay for it; most of this stuff should have been part of Jaws of Hakkon.

Preorders received the Flames of the Inquisition pack for a collection of weapons, armor and a mount.

Deluxe Editions came with the above and the Skyhold Throne, Red Hart mount, Bog Unicorn mount, and special Multiplayer Deluxe Edition chest. That's three mounts for those of you keeping score. :smuggo:

If you didn't preorder, all the preorder goodies are available in the Deluxe Upgrade pack.

Also insane people could have bought the Inquisitor's Edition:

Naturally, it sold out like you wouldn't believe.

Red Lyrium Reapers:
A hot spot puzzle game or something for unlocking a free DLC weapons pack (the weapons are so, so ugly, though). Basically, watch four trailers twice each and click on green clouds (if you can see them--the video quality is kind of poo poo). Best attempted in Chrome--doesn't work in Internet Explorer and may crash Firefox. Remember to log in with your Origin account so you can claim your goodies. I've been sitting here for 5 mins trying to think of a joke to make but I just realised the animators of Mass Effect already did it for me

Dragon Age Inquisition, believe it or not, started development as a purely multiplayer game. If the multiplayer in this game is half as good as ME3's multiplayer, we may need to break this out into its own thread. For the meantime, though, this post will serve as a quick run down of the multiplayer's basic mechanics and characters.

edit: Multiplayer thread is here!

Sign up on the :siren: Something Awful Old God Child Nursery :siren: if you're looking for other players on your platform. Bioware has stated that there are no limits on who you can party with region-wise—live in Australia and want to play a round with someone in Canada? Only thing in your way is your platform and your ping.

Multiplayer is a class-based, team-based dungeon-crawl simulator. Dungeons are randomly generated to create five rooms. Each room may have multiple chambers and multiple waves, but once you clear it you will be able to move to the next room. Each room has optional areas with loot that can only be accessed by members of a given class--only Warriors can bash down walls or only rogues can pick locks; you get the idea. Your mission is to get to the final chamber and kill the final boss of the map to win, but sometimes bonus missions will be triggered from opening a chest that contains monster or meeting an NPC during the crawl. These bonus missions serve the same purpose they did in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer and try to spice things up.

As of right now, there are three types of enemy you will face when you enter a map: Red Templars, Venatori and straight up Demons. You can guarantee that more will be added in time. Counting down to Qunari Invasion?

Whether you complete a game by beating the boss or wiping the party, you get to keep the experience, gold and loot you collected during the adventure. Loot is shared across the party, but not everyone gets the same things: If items are collected from a chest, everyone gets an item but the game rolls to see what kind of item they get, so one player may get a common, two may get uncommon and the last may get a rare.

Continuing to take notes from ME3, there are two kinds of currency: Gold and Platinum. Gold is earned the standard way, but Platinum is bought with real money as a shortcut. You can use gold to buy chests full of loot outside of dungeons, which may include items like potions, weapons and armor, or even characters. Nothing is gated by currency type: Everything in the game can be bought with gold; platinum is just there if you're lazy, in a hurry, and/or have more money than sense.

There is no trading loot, however. Instead, if you have equipment you do not want, you break it down into its components, which you can then use to craft other things which you hopefully do want. You can craft weapons and armor and they are persistent for all your characters. In fact, crafting armors is one of the ways to unlock other multiplayer classes. Craft a Reaver's Scale Coat, and if you don't already have a Reaver, she'll unlock! We'll surely start a list for crafting items after the game gets rolling and people figure out the combinations.

Bioware have said that an app called the Inquisition HQ will be available that will let you tweak your characters loadouts, craft items and salvage equipment from outside the game. It will run on PCs, tablets and Smartphones. I'll link it here when it launches, but I haven't seen an official release date on that yet. Someone fill me in if you know something I don't.

edit: The HQ is live.

Max level is 20, again, like ME3, and you can promote your characters when they hit max level. Doing so resets the class's level to 1, allowing you to start over. There is no mechanical carry over to single player, unlike ME3. Promoting your characters does have a benefit in multiplayer, however, in that a key stat related to the class you promoted will now receive a bonus on all of your characters. Level up your keeper and promote her, for example, and all your characters receive a bonus to an attribute. This stacks to some maximum, but does provide an incentive besides getting to level up again.

When you start multiplayer, you will have three classes readily available, but 12 can be unlocked at launch. They are, in no particular order:

Arcane Warrior
A fan favorite returning from Dragon Age: Origins. In that game, it was a mage tank and one of the most powerful specializations.

Elementalist
which promises to be a big ball of explosions.

Keeper
This is a pretty close substitute to you standard cleric-class party-nanny, as it can reliably spam barriers to keep your party's health from getting too badly dinged. Assuming your Keeper teammate knows how to time their barriers effectively, that is.

Necromancer
Presumably this will work a lot like the Necromancer spec in single player, which use fear effects, health steal and boosts damage after targets die.

Alchemist
A rogue that uses a variety of potions and elixirs. Closest thing we'll get to a Dwarven Mage until Sandal makes his glorious return :allears:

Archer
Ranged DPS standby, really.

Assassin
Melee and stealth DPS

Hunter
A multiplayer version of the Artificer specialization, maybe.

Katari
The only Qunari multiplayer character at the moment, with a big honking axe.

Legionnaire
A member of the Legion of the Dead, the Legionnaire serves as the prototypical dwarven tank.

Reaver
A multiplayer interpretation of the singleplayer specialization, the Reaver uses dragon blood powers to rip health out of her opponents.

Templar
A paladin by any other name, really.

One of the gimmicks of Dragon Age's multiplayer is your characters are actually characters and talk to each other. You can use the directional buttons to make them quip and banter, and some characters do not like each other, like the Reaver and Templar. Each has their own backstory you can read, if you bought this game to read or something :confuoot:

When you die in multiplayer, you enter Fade Mode. In this state, you are essentially the Tactical Camera from Singleplayer, and can scan targets for their weaknesses, scout around the level, and put down waypoints to help communicate with and direct your remaining teammates. You will be revived when the wave is beaten.

Multiplayer Expansions
  • Destruction: Adds new paths to the original three map areas--Elven Ruins, Orlesian Chateau and Tevinter Ruins--and wild animals are added to maps for more enemy variety.
  • Dragonslayer: Adds a new map type (Ferelden Castle), three new player characters (Avvar Skywatcher, an elemental melee mage; Virtuoso, a magic bard; and Isabela the duelist from DA:O and DA2 has brought her fancy new hat), and encounters with high dragons.

I believe Green Man Gaming would be your best bet, though I don't know if their best discount is still going (they also had a VIP discount that only showed up if you logged in). Drifter was able to get the game practically for free, so wait for him to check in and ask.

Of note: if you want the digital Deluxe version, that can only be had on Origin.

Would love to have the PC version, but I'm not getting it due to my terrible PC. It had no problem running DA2 at all but has big trouble running any AC game, which I think is on par with DAI.

Signs are pointing towards more good than bad, but few details are currently available about the actual story and major characters of the game, which being an RPG will probably do a lot to inform the answer to your question.

Yeah it probably won't be a day one purchase for me, but if the multiplayer is half as good as ME3's horde mode, then I'll probably grab it at some point. The inquisition mechanic sounds interesting but overall the world of Dragon Age bores me to tears.

That being said, I've heard in a few places now that the story and main antagonist of Inquisition actually aren't as bizarre, world-shattering, and generally all-powerful as the hype and advertisements have made it seem, and that Inquisition actually ends up being about a fairly mundane (by Dragon Age standards) threat. Points to Bioware if they realized the mistake they made with the Reapers.

It made sense to have some kind of huge existential threat in Mass Effect because you needed something to keep the plot moving across three episodes, regardless of how well that was actually achieved. Many of the complaints around DA2 from what I remember centered on the story feeling small and ultimately meaningless in the wake of killing the demons, or whatever. Who cares about any of that crap really, 420 shoot magic lasers and slay monsters everyday.

ed: the brother or sister with the same class as you dies by darkspawn in the very beginning during your escape from your hometown, on your way to Kirkwall.

DA2: Kirkwall is a shithole, Hawke comes along and does a bunch of quests, goes to the Deep Roads, finds a weird idol, it's basically the one ring and it is stolen by Varric's brother, years pass.

Qunari have one weird trick for stirring up poo poo in Kirkwall. Templars hate them! Also mages are being poo poo on constantly by everyone especially the templars. Anders, a mage who is possessed by a spirit of Justice, thinks that's dumb. Isabela is a pirate lady who stole a book which is why the Qunari are there. Qunari get pissed and attack, and Isabela returns the book and you either kill the Qunari leader or hand over Isabela as a prisoner. Years pass.

Templars and mages have had it with each other! They try to set it up as a moral dilemma, but clearly the templars are insane and Knight-Commander Meredith is literally hitler. Mages are basically mutants from X-Men. Anyway, Anders has had enough of this poo poo and blows up the Chantry with the high priestess inside, the one beloved neutral party in town. Everyone loses their poo poo, and you find out that Meredith came into possession of that dumb idol you found in act 1, which is why she's so evil. You kill her or I guess you can side with her but I have no idea what happens if you do. The shaky truce between templars and mages has evaporated.

That's basically it. The story is being told by Varric to Cassandra who is a major NPC in Inquisition. She and Leliana are looking for Hawke because they want his/her help with something which I'm sure will be important later.

I'm reserving judgement still. Everything looks good, but this is modern Bioware and we know Morrigan is going to play an important role in the plot for one, which is probably not a good sign. Going to wait and see what goons say about how it actually pans out.

And they really do go through every goddamn Keep choice which might be useful to some folks - the guys in the video get pretty much everything right.

Also something they pointed out which I hadn't considered before - DA2 makes sense if you think of it like a villain's origin story, the villain being Hawke. I'm tempted to now make a Keep world state where Hawke was mage who was in cahoots with Anders just so I can (hopefully) dick them both over in Inquisition.
