In It For The Tank posted:I'm like 90% sure it will be multiple characters per episode. Since one character is an exile in Essos (who I think is a safe bet to be a POV), it would be quite a sudden gear shift if they told a story in Westeros and suddenly you were stuck in Essos for an entire episode. It's not impossible though. Meanwhile, back at the wall...

It's definitely going to spoil events from season 4, I mean even if it's completely disconnected from events related to the series characters are still likely to talk about big events that happen elsewhere. If you really can't acquire the show and don't want to wait there's this summary of the show written by this dude, George something Martin, it's ok.

Just finished downloading on Steam. By the way, given the different release dates and the such I assume same spoiler policy as TWD games? (that is, all black bars all the time?)

I haven't finished the chapter yet, honestly I got a little bit bored and didn't feel like forcing myself to finish it one session, something which has never been a problem with any of the TWD episodes, it's not bad by any means but it's certainly not up to par with Season 1 of TWD and for me it also felt weaker than season 2. My main observation is that this game relies much more on being a franchise tie-in than TWD, where TWD felt like it would be interesting and exciting to anyone who appreciates these sort of games GOT feels like it wouldn't grasp anyone who wasn't already immersed in the franchise. Also, pressing 'A' to dodge a zombie is somehow much less jarring than doing the same against people with swords. I generally just felt like it wasn't really executed well enough, whoever said that the presence of the celebrity actors from the show might impact negatively the rest of the voice acting have got it at least partially right, some of the performances seem rather weak, particularly in comparison to TWD where the acting basically brought the game to a different level.

Karpaw posted:Why does Tyrion say that Mira making the deal with him will be dangerous for the Forresters? I understand it's going behind Cersei's back but the result is what she herself wanted and isn't the whole point that the house will come under the Crown's protection by providing that service? Well, clearly having the crown's protection is a good thing, but the support is also volatile, a deal brokered by Tyrion is as likely to anger Cersei who would then have a grudge against the Forresters as well as the power to revoke the deal and pronounce them traitors to the crown. A deal brokered by Joff/Marge is obviously a much safer option.

Creating a new original story in the ASOIAF-verse was always going to be tricky. Compare TWD with ASOIAF for instance, in TWD it's pretty much a given that the main survivor group led by Rick is not the center of the world and doesn't have a particular role to play in the way things would play out for other groups of survivors, so it's pretty trivial to create any number of stories in that franchise. In ASOIAF not only are events intertwined with one another, there is a central story where the show/novel protagonists have roles to play which are expected to affect the fact of the world, on top of that you have rich lore and histories going back hundreds of years, parts of which have been flashed out thoroughly by GRRM with his prequel novellas. So, wherever you try to cram in an additional untold story it's going to feel insignificant cause you can't really screw around too much with the canonical story, on top of that, to maximize the 'show tie in' effect they really had to create as many opportunities for the main cast to make an appearance, there really isn't that much wiggle room.

CountingWizard posted:I guess I wouldn't mind the whole episodic thing if there was content. I feel pretty ripped off having paid full price for my first Telltale game. There is no gameplay, and choices don't have consequences, which only leaves the story; however I can get just as much entertainment just by watching a youtube of the game. Gameplay is sparse but at least some of their games, particularly the walking dead season 1, offer a rather unique interactive experience which you really won't get by just watching someone else play it. TWD Season 1 offers tons of dialogue and characterization variance based on your choices. It's really too early to say whether GOT will have these merits, so I can definitely see where you're coming from.

I really doubt someone who's read the books will feel even remotely lost playing the game, even with the differences between the show and the books.

I've been holding off on playing episode 2 for a while, I started yesterday and I really want to like this game but whenever there's a Mira sequence I feel immediate boredom and just want to ALT+F4 out of the game asap. Mira is just super boring to me, it felt like everything she did in episode 1 was completely meaningless and the 'court intrigue' feels fake given that we know none of it is gonna play out in any significance manner as far as any of the characters she interacts with other than the coal boy and the other handmaiden are concerned. Asher was cool, Rodrick was pretty cool as well, Mira really breaks the flow of the game for me.
